DUB’s Daily Dose: Palmer and Souch collect DUB Weekly Awards, Christiansen recalled by Blue Jackets, and more!

 

Palmer DUB Goaltender of the Week

18-year-old Tyler Palmer was named the DUB Goalie of the Week after going 2-0-0-0 in the week with a 1.00 goals-against average, an amazing .969 save percentage (stopping 63 of 65 shots), and one shutout.

Souch DUB Player of the Week

Carter Souch had himself a week when he picked up eight points (5G-3A) in just a trio of games. The Edmonton product had multiple points in the three games he played: February 21 vs. the ICE (1G-2A), February 25 vs. the Pats (2G-1A), and February 26 vs. the Raiders (2G).

Vartovník extends with Spišská Nová Ves (Slovakia, Extraliga)

Lukáš Vartovník (Everett 2006-2008) signed a one-year contract extension with HK Spisska Nova Ves of Slovakia’s Extraliga. The 32-year-old, playing in his eighth season with the club (which is now in their first season in Extraliga) has dressed for 41 games so far in 2021-22 he has eight points (6G-2A).

The forward from Gelnica, Slovakia played two DUC seasons with the Silvertips where he suited up for 130 games collecting 41 points (22G-19A).

McGauley signs with ERC Ingolstadt

Tim McGauley (Saskatoon, Brandon 2010-2016) signed for the rest of this season with ERC Ingolstadt (Germany, DEL) after his release by mutual agreement by HK Innsbruck (Austria’s ICE HL). In 47 games with Innsbruck, he had 50 points (19G-31A) which led the team in scoring. The ICE League regular season ended this week and Innsbruck did not make the playoffs. His new club in Ingolstadt has 16 games remaining in their regular season, to be played in a span of 32 days which begins Wednesday when he’s expected to make his debut.

The forward from Wilcox, Saskatchewan played 276 games in the DUB, all but five with the Wheat Kings collecting 259 points (102G-157A) along the way.

Olynek released by Allen

Kolten Olynek (Lethbridge, Moose Jaw, Spokane, Prince Albert, Saskatoon 2012-17) was released by the ECHL’s Allen Americans just over a month after signing with the club. The 25-year-old had been in his fifth season at the University of Western Ontario (USports) where he had seven points (4G-3A) in six games. In 16 games with the Americans, he had a pair of assists.

Olynek, a well-traveled WHLer played parts of five seasons with five different DUB clubs, starting with the Hurricanes and finishing with the Blades as an overage. He made stops with the Warriors, Chiefs, and Raiders in between. He had 77 points (32G-45A) in 253 WHL games.

Thompson reassigned to Silver Knights

Logan Thompson (Brandon 2014-18) was reassigned (again) to the Henderson Silver Knights by the Vegas Golden Knights which has happened multiple times this season. The 24-year-old goalie from Calgary has played a majority of the 2021-22 season with the Golden Knights AHL affiliate in Henderson where he has played 24 games going 13-8-4 with a 2.67 GAA and .925 SV% with a pair of shutouts. In two appearances with Vegas, he is 1-1-0 with a 2.07 GAA and .935 SV%.

He played his entire 122 game DUB career with the Wheat Kings going 63-41-10 with a 3.26 GAA, .905 SV%, and 4 shutouts for the Manitoba club.

Christiansen recalled by Blue Jackets

Jake Christiansen (Everett, 2015-20) was recalled from the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL to join the Columbus Blue Jackets on an emergency basis.

The West Vancouver, BC product has played in 39 AHL games for the Monsters this season where he has 26 points (6G-20A). In three games with the Blue Jackets, he has been held off the scoresheet.

In his five-year WHL career, all spent with the Silvertips, Christiansen played in 297 games, He averaged just over 1/2 point per game managing 152 points (50 goals, 102 assists).
