53 WHLers rated in the Central Scouting Midterms

Central Scouting released their Midterm Draft rankings and 53 WHLers made the list amongst North American skaters and goaltenders.

Swift Current led the way with six players on the list, followed closely by Prince George with five, and Saskatoon and Winnipeg each had four representatives. Lethbridge and Prince Albert are the only two without a player on the list.

Matthew Savioe (3rd), Conor Geekie (4th), and Denton Mateychuk (9th) crack the top-ten North American skaters. Kevin Korchinski (20th), Owen Pickering (21st), and Mats Lindgren (30th) round out the top WHLers in the first 30 ranked.

Tyler Brennan (Prince George) is the top-ranked goaltender in North America.

Button releases his top 80 “Craig’s List”

Not to be overshadowed, TSN’s Craig Button his top 80 draft-eligible prospects in his “Craig’s List” the same day.

Ten WHLers cracked his list:

Winnipeg’s Savoie (8th) and Geekie (17th) top the WHLers listed. Gustafson (24th), Korchinski (26th), Mateychuk (29th), Lindgren (55th), Seminoff (57th), Minten (66th), Lisowsky (70th), and Ward (71st) rounded out the top players.

WHL is looking for Manager, Officiating

As the Tweet says the WHL has a job opening as they are looking for Manager, Officiating.

Oil Kings sign Wheddon

The Edmonton Oil Kings signed sixteen-year-old forward Hayden Wheddon to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The Stonewall, MB product has played the 2021-22 season with the Interlake Lightning U18 AAA team where he has 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists) in 34 games. He has also has no points in one game with the Stonewall Jets of the MMJHL.

Formanek officially added to Red Deer’s roster

Frantisek Formanek who signed with the Red Deer Rebels on December 29, has officially been added to the Rebels according to the WHL Weekly Report for January 11th.

The 17-year-old was selected by Red Deer 14th overall in the 2021 CHL Import Draft.

He has played 23 games with HC Dynamo Pardubice U20 tallying 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists). He has also played a pair of professional games, one with HC Dynamo Pardubice (Czechia) where he had no stats, and the other contest with HC Stadion Vrchlabi (Czechia2) where he scored once.

Smith no longer with the Pats

Zack Smith was a deletion from the Regina Pats roster in the January 11 WHL Weekly Report. The overage forward played his entire WHL career with the Pats.

After signing with the Pats in 2019-20 the Saskatoon, SK product skated in 85 games for Regina collecting 44 points (21 goals, 23 assists).

Geci also no longer with the Pats

Alex Geci was another deletion from the Pats roster in the January 11 WHL Weekly Report. Geci joined the Pats on November 23 after starting the season in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting.

The eighteen-year-old forward from Topolcany, Slovakia played 13 games with the Pats picking up five points (two goals, three assists).
