Schneider called up

2020 first-round pick Braden Schneider (Brandon 2016-21) got the call to join the New York Rangers from the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack.

Schneider has played 24 games for the Rangers affiliate where he has recorded nine assists.

The twenty-year-old defenseman from Prince Albert, SK played his entire five-year WHL career with the Wheat Kings. In 207 games he put up 115 points (21 goals, 94 assists).

Rebels acquire Van De Leest from Hitmen in a big trade

The Red Deer Rebels made a splash on the trade front acquiring overage defenseman Jackson van de Leest from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for overage forward Blake Stevenson, eighteen-year-old forward Trey Patterson, and a second-round pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects draft.

The towering Hitmen captain from Kelowna, BC has played his entire career with Calgary. The 6’7″, 238 lb. defenseman has played 221 games with the Hitmen where he has accumulated 78 points (nine goals, 69 assists).

Stevenson started his WHL career with Tri-City before being moved to Saskatoon where he played all 24 games in the WHL Eastern Division Hub before being moved to the Rebels for 2021-22 where he has 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 34 games. The Calgary product has suited up for 146 games so far in his career where he has 80 points (37 goals, 43 assists).

Patterson, an eighteen-year-old defenseman also from Calgary has played in parts of three seasons with the Rebels where he has suited up in 41 games notching a pair of assists. In 24 games in 2021-22 he has played 24 of those games.

Hurley signs with Swift Current

Swift Current 2019 fourth-round draft pick Ty Hurley signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Broncos.

The 5’8″ left-winger from Sherwood Park, AB has been skating with his hometown Crusaders where he has six points (one goal, five assists) in 27 games with the AJHL club.

Form joins Humboldt

After being released from the Spokane Chiefs, nineteen-year-old forward

James Form has signed with the Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL.

Form, who was acquired from the ICE earlier in the season had played in nine games with the Chiefs scoring once. The Saskatoon, SK product has 15 points (10 goals, nine assists) in 91 career WHL games.

Bjornson signs with the Royals

Hudson Bjornson is the first player from the 2021 U.S. WHL Priority Draft to sign with their club. The fifteen-year-old defenseman from Scottsdale, AZ has played 11 games for the Phoenix Coyotes 15U AAA club where he has notched 3 assists.

Kudelka joins HC Prerov

Tomas Kudelka (Lethbridge 2005-07) was granted his release from Chamonix of France’s Ligue Magnus due to family reasons. He went on to sign with HC Prerov of the Czechia, 1. Liga for the remainder of the season.

In 21 games with Chamonix, Kudelka played in 21 games collecting four points (1 goal, 3 assists).

The 6’3″ Czechia-born defenseman played two seasons for the Hurricanes skating in 123 games scoring 72 points (20 goals, 52 assists).

Brkin on the move again

Bailey Brkin (Swift Current, Kootenay, Spokane, and Moose Jaw 2016-20) who has been on the move several times this year has joined the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL.

Brkin was 2-2-0 in four appearances with Fort Wayne he had a 3.06 GAA and .869 SV%. He has also played for the SPHL’s Quad City Storm where he now holds an 8-2-2 record with a 2.07 GAA and .926 SV%.

Over parts of four seasons in the WHL he played 89 games compiling a 44-32-6 record. He had a 3.40 GAA and .898 SV% in his WHL career.

Borysiuk joins the Bobcats

Jordan Borysiuk who was released by the Swift Current Broncos has joined the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL.

The Mannville, AB product has appeared in 57 games over parts of five seasons in the WHL split between the Red Deer Rebels and Broncos. He has scored three goals and added five assists during his career.

Zwerger signs two-year extension

Dominic Zwerger (Spokane, Everett 2013-17) has signed a two-year extension with the HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss NL. Zwerger is in his fifth season with the club.

Through 30 games in 2021-22, the 25-year-old Austrian has 16 points (four goals, 12 assists). In 226 games so far with the club, he has 159 points (58 goals, 101 assists)

In his four-year WHL career, mostly with Spokane before moving to Everett for his overage season Zwerger played 256 games picking up 194 points (88 goals, 106 assists).

Brown takes the remainder of the season off

The Tri-City Americans announced today that overage defenseman Mitchell Brown has decided to take the rest of the year off to heal from recurring injuries.

The Salmon Arm, BC product has played his entire career with the Americans where he skated in 159 games where he has tallied 33 points (eight goals, 25 assists).

“Brownie was an integral part of our team. He has left a lasting impression on our organization and all who had the pleasure to meet him,” said Americans general manager Bob Tory. “We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
