WHL Update
The Western Hockey League today announced eight WHL Clubs have been cleared to resume all team activities, while also announcing changes to 18 WHL Regular Season games.

Eight teams return to activities: The Edmonton Oil Kings, Everett Silvertips, Medicine Hat Tigers, Prince Albert Raiders, Red Deer Rebels, Saskatoon Blades, Spokane Chiefs and Winnipeg ICE have all been cleared to resume team activities, in accordance with WHL COVID-19 Protocols.
Multiple schedule changes were announced.

Brayden Tracey (Moose Jaw, Victoria 2017-21) made his NHL on Sunday, January 9 for the Anaheim Ducks against the Detroit Red Wings in a 4-3 SO win. He had one shot in 9:21.
He started the season with the San Diego Gulls where he picked up 21 points in 24 games thus far in 2021-22 on nine goals and 12 assists.
Tracey played the majority of his career for Moose Jaw before being dealt to the Royals. The Calgary native played in 145 WHL games where he collected 165 points (67 goals, 98 assists).
Pats claim Salame

The Regina Pats claimed overage defenseman Neithan Salame from the Brandon Wheat Kings.
The 6’1, 185 lb. product from Edmonton has played his entire 149 game career with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He has 32 points in those games which includes seven goals and 25 assists.
He had been traded to the Victoria Royals back in October but an injury to Salame nullified the trade and his rights reverted back to Brandon.
Pats acquire Linklater

Kindersley, Saskatchewan’s Logan Linklater was acquired by the Regina Pats from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a conditional eighth-round pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
Linklater has played the 2021-22 season in the SJHL with his hometown Kindersley Klippers where he has skated in 26 games chalking up 14 points (eight goals, six assists).
The eighteen-year-old forward made his debut in the WHL Eastern Division Hub where he played in 22 games with the Raiders picking up five points (one goal, four assists).
Raiders reassign Tisdale
Additionally, the Raiders have re-assigned goaltender Cole Tisdale to the AJHL's Whitecourt Wolverines.

Nineteen-year-old goaltender Cole Tisdale was reassigned to the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL (rights were then traded to the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL).
The Lethbridge product had played in 16 games over parts of three seasons with the Kelowna Rockets, Tri-City Americans and Raiders. He was 6-1-2 with a 3.76 goals against average and .875 save percentage.
Chiefs make a trio of moves
Multiple roster moves announced today, including the reassignment of F Copeland Fricker & D Ben Bonni. F James Form has been released.

Forward Copeland Fricker and defenseman Ben Bonni have been reassigned. Forward James Form has been released from the club.
Eighteen-year-old Fricker was reassigned to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. The Midland, TX product has played 45 games for the Chiefs over the last two seasons where he has 12 points (three goals, nine assists).
Bonni, a seventeen-year-old product from Winnipeg was a rookie with the Chiefs and had appeared in 18 games with an assist.
Form, who was acquired from the ICE earlier in the season had played in nine games with the Chiefs scoring once. The Saskatoon, SK product has 15 points (10 goals, nine assists) in 91 career WHL games.

The Edmonton Oil Kings announced that sixteen-year-old defenseman Carter Kowalyk would remain with the club for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
In 2021-22 he has played in 15 games for the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep team picking up 14 points (five goals, nine assists) and has played a pair of games with the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL (no points). The 6’3″ St. Albert, AB product has now played in nine games for the Oil Kings while picking up two assists, he has impressed so much that he is staying with the club.
ICE acquires Newell
The Rockets have acquired a pick from the @WHLWpgICE in exchange for Jarod Newell.
Newell played in eight games for Kelowna during the 19/20 season. He has spent the last two seasons in the AJHL while remaining on the Rockets protected list.

The Winnipeg ICE acquired the playing rights of defenseman Jarod Newell from the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for a ninth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.
Newell has spent the last two seasons with the AJHL’s Camrose Kodiaks where he has played 44 games picking up 13 points (four goals, nine assists).
In parts of three seasons with Tri-City Americans and Rockets, Newell has played 53 games scoring once and adding an assist.

Seventeen-year-old forward Reid MacKay was reassigned to the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Irma, AB product made his WHL debut last season and has now skated in 22 games with the Hurricanes notching two helpers.

The Broncos have released 2002-born forward Jordan Borysiuk.

The Swift Current Broncos released 19-year-old forward Jordan Borysiuk from their roster.
The Mannville, AB product has appeared in 57 games over parts of five seasons in the WHL split between the Red Deer Rebels and Broncos. He has scored three goals and added five assists during his career.

The 6’1″ defenseman from Surrey, BC has played 30 games over parts of three seasons with the Giants picking up two assists.

Forward Ethan Rowland was traded by the Red Deer Rebels to the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.
The 19-year-old Calgary product had played his entire career with the Rebels where he has played 95 games scoring 12 goals and adding six assists for 18 points.

Brett Mirwald who was recently let go by the Moose Jaw Warriors had his CJHL right traded from the Nanaimo Clippers to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the MJHL.
The Saskatoon, SK product made his first appearance for the Warriors in the WHL Eastern Division Hub. In 19 career WHL games he has a 4-12-1 record with a 3.75 GAA and .884 SV%.

Aidan Brook who was most recently with the Prince George Cougars was assigned to the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL.
After starting his career with Medicine Hat, Brook was traded to Prince George in November. Through 35 career WHL games, the Roblin, MB product has a pair of assists.

The Tri-City Americans announced that they will be holding Military Appreciation Night on Friday, January 14 in a game versus a Blazers.
The Americans will wear special Military Appreciation Night jerseys in honor of veterans and active military. All jerseys will be auctioned off following the game.
