Minor DUB schedule tweak

The game between the Red Deer Rebels and host Brandon Wheat Kings that was scheduled to take place on Monday, February 7 has been moved to Tuesday, February 8 where the Wheat Kings will be allowed 50% capacity at Westoba Place.

DeSilva extends with Silvertips

The Everett Silvertips signed assistant coach Dean DeSilva to a two-year contract extension which runs through 2023-24. DeSilva is currently in his first season as an assistant with the Silvertips. DeSilva is primarily tasked with working with the Silvertips’ forward group, focusing on skill development and video.

“I’m thankful for the support and opportunity provided by Dennis Williams and the entire Silvertips organization,” commented DeSilva in a Silvertips release. “I’m happy that I’m able to continue working with Dennis and Louis on the coaching staff as well as with the players. Everett continues to be an outstanding organization and a place that players want to be. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish moving forward as a team.”

Prior to joining the Silvertips, DeSilva was an assistant coach with the Giants (2019-20) where he handled the video and analytics. DeSilva has also worked as an assistant or camp coach with Hockey Canada at the U16, U17 and 3 Nations Cup levels. Additionally, he coached the Kitchener Junior Rangers U16 AAA program for five seasons.

Five DUB Teams in the CHL Top-10

The Winnipeg ICE, Edmonton Oil Kings, and Everett Silvertips are the CHL’s top three in the CHL’s Top-10. The Portland Winterhawks are on the move up to fifth spot with their recent hot streak who have not lost in regulation in their last 14 games. The Kamloops Blazers have moved up to number eight in this week’s rankings on their current six game winning streak.

Porter loaned to Saimaan Pallo

Cody Porter (Vancouver, Calgary 2014-17) was loaned to SaiPa of the Liiga from the IPK club in the Mestis. The 24-year-old native of North Vancouver had been IPK’s starter where he played in 25 games with a 2.78 goals against average and .902 save percentage.

In three DUB seasons, Porter played 117 games where he went 52-42-9 with a 3.30 GAA and .887 SV%.

Shmyr released by Ă–stersunds

Braylon Shmyr (Brandon, Saskatoon 2012-18) was released by Ă–stersunds IK (Sweden’s HockeyEttan). In 24 games with the club, the 24-year-old had 17 points (7G-10A) thus far this season.

In 300 DUB games, the left-winger from Vancouver had 240 points on 111 goals and 129 assists split between the Wheat Kings and Blades.

Strand returned to Reign

Austin Strand (Red Deer, Seattle 2014-18) was loaned to the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate Ontario Reign. He has been up and down a couple of times so far this season. The 24-year-old defenseman has played with both the Kings and their AHL’s farm team the Ontario Reign. With the Kings, the Calgary product played in four games and has a pair of assists. With the Reign, he has skated in 16 games collecting five points (2G-3A).

His DUB career was split between the Rebels and Thunderbirds where he picked up 122 points (40G-82A) in 268 games.

Platonov signs with HC Mariupol

Alexei Platonov (Medicine Hat 2015-16) signed with the HC Mariupol of the UHSL (Ukraine). He had been with Donbass Donetsk (UHSL) where he played one game and was previously with Sokol Kiev in Ukraine’s top division where he played four games scoring twice.

In his lone season in the DUB, the hulking 6-ft-5 defenseman played just two games with the Tigers before returning to Russia’s Khlmik Voskresensk (VHL).

Harty released by the Mariners

Jonathan Harty (Everett 2004-08) who had recently signed with the Maine Mariners (ECHL) was released and will likely return to Rivière-du-Loup 3L of the LNAH (where he played 10 games with a goal and an assist). In two games with Maine, Harty was held off the scoresheet.

In his four-year DUB career, Harty, a defenseman played his whole career with the Silvertips where he had 90 points (21G-69A) in 246 games.
