IIHF announces that the World Juniors are rescheduled for August

“It will be in the middle of August in Alberta (Canada),” IIHF President Luc Tardif said Thursday from the 2022 Beijing Olympics. “It will be a new competition, which means we forget the results (in December).”

Details are still being worked out, but here is the information we have so far.

DUB playoff start, schedule extended by two weeks

A big update from the WHL, they announced that the schedule will be extended by two weeks to accommodate multiple postponed games and that the playoffs will begin on April 20th. Details can be found here.

Brooks back on waivers

Adam Brooks (Regina 2012-17) was placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs one day after they claimed him from the Vegas Golden Knights. Brooks has been on the move in the 2021-22 season, he played four games with the Montreal Canadiens (one assist) before being acquired by the Golden Knights where he has played in seven contests scoring twice. He has also played five games with Henderson Silver Knights where he had 3 assists when he was on a conditioning loan with the AHL club.

The Winnipeg product played his entire five-year DUB career with the Pats where he played 317 games picking up 335 points (119G-216A) during his tenure with Regina.

Schmid called up to the Devils

Akira Schmid (Lethbridge 2018-19) was recalled by the New Jersey Devils in one of his many moves between the NHL and AHL this season. six appearances with the Devils going 0-4-0 with a 4.83 goals-against average and .833 save percentage. In 16 games with the Comets, he is 12-2-2 with a still-impressive 2.15 GAA, .929 SV%, and 2 shutouts.

The Swiss-born netminder was the Hurricanes’ first-round pick in the 2018 CHL Import Draft (20th overall). He made one appearance where he played 56:32 allowing seven goals on 27 shots. He finished his WHL career with a 7.43 GAA and .741 SV%.

McAuley released by the Bears

Colby McAuley (Prince George 2014-17) was released from his professional tryout by the AHL’s Hershey Bears he will return to the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. The 25-year-old Sherwood Park, AB product had signed a PTO with the Bears on December 28. In five games with the Bears, he had one assist. He returns to the Steelheads where he has 14 points (8G-6A) in 22 games.

In 191 career DUB games, all played with the Cougars the 6-ft centerman had 96 points (44G-52A).

Miner reassigned to Grizzlies

Trent Miner (Vancouver 2017-21) was again reassigned by the Colorado Eagles to the Utah Grizzlies a move that has happened multiple times this season. With the Eagles, he has appeared in five games going 2-3-0 with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage. With the Grizzlies, he has an 11-5-0 record with a 2.41 GAA and a .919 SV% with 4 shutouts.

In his four-year DUB career, the 2001-born netminder went 48-28-5 with a 2.49 GAA and .910 SV% with the Giants.
