Chadwick scores first for Hurricanes

Sixteen-year-old defenseman Noah Chadwick notched his first career DUB goal in just his second game for the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a 5-4 win over the visiting Regina Pats. The Saskatoon product has 36 points (15G-21A) in 33 games for his hometown Contacts in the SMAAAHL.

DUB Debut

Fan plays first DUB game with Americans

Seventeen-year-old Andrew Fan made his long-awaited DUB debut on Friday in Kennewick in a _-_ ___ ___ the Portland Winterhawks. The Eagle River, AK product had missed the first half of the season with an injury. Fan a list player had signed with the Americans on July 26.

Ross joins HK Dukla Michalovce

Nick Ross (Regina, Kamloops, Vancouver 2004-09) who was released on January 30 by Dornbirner (ICEHL) has joined Slovakia’s Hokejový Klub Dukla Ingema Michalovce. In 39 games in 2021-22, he has 19 points (all assists). The former first-round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes (30th overall in 2007) has played the last 10 seasons in Europe.

Dukla’s defense boards will be strengthened by defender Nick Ross, who is certainly no stranger to Tipos Extraliga fans. The Lethbridge, AB defenseman played 288 DUB games mostly with the Pats before being traded to the Blazers and ending his career with the Giants where he had 145 points (33G-112A).

Shmyr joins the Clan

Just a day after being released by Östersunds IK (HockeyEttan, Sweden), Braylon Shmyr (Brandon, Saskatoon 2012-18) has joined the Glasgow Clan of the EIHL. The 24-year-old had 17 points (7G-10A) in 24 games far this season, he had played in the EIHL in 2019-20 for Guildford). His new head coach and Director of Hockey Operations is Malcolm Cameron (who was an assistant coach and head coach for the Regina Pats). He joins four DUB alumni playing with the Scottish club: Colton Yellow Horn (Lethbridge, Tri-City 2003-08), Dyson Stevenson (Regina 2009-14), Rodney Southam (Tri-City, Kelowna 2012-17), and Jamie Crooks (Saskatoon, Chilliwack/Victoria 2008-13).

“I’m delighted for the opportunity to be coming back to the UK and when the Clan contacted me, I jumped at the chance to come back,” Shmyr said in a press release on the Clan’s website.

In 300 DUB games, the left-winger from Vancouver had 240 points (111G-129A) split between the Wheat Kings and Blades.

Schmid sent to Utica

Akira Schmid (Lethbridge 2018-19) was assigned to the Utica Comets of the AHL by the New Jersey Devils. The 21-year-old goaltender has been shuffled between the NHL and AHL a few times this season and has now made six appearances with the Devils going 0-4-0 with a 4.83 goals against average and .833 save percentage. In 11 games with the Comets, he’s 9-0-2 with an impressive 1.54 GAA and .948 SV%.

The Swiss netminder was the Hurricanes’ first-round pick in the 2018 CHL Import Draft. He made one appearance for Lethbridge playing in 56:32 allowing seven goals on 27 shots. He finished his WHL career with a 7.43 GAA and .741 SV%.

Juulsen sent to Abbotsford

Noah Juulsen was returned to the Abbotsford Canucks by their NHL affiliate Vancouver. The former first-round NHL pick (26th overall, Montreal in 2015) has been shuffled between the NHL and AHL multiple times this season. He has played five games in Vancouver this season where he has no points. In 26 games for Abbotsford, he has 10 points (2G-8A) and 15 penalty minutes.

The defenseman from Surrey, BC played his DUB career with the Silvertips where he had 124 points (30G-94A) in 240 games where he was the captain in 2016-17, his final season before turning pro.
