The defending-champion Swift Current Broncos continued building for their future on Wednesday, trading import d-man Artyom Minulin and an eight-round pick to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for 2001-born d-man Alex Moar.
Minulin had posted 93 points between the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, but has yet to get into a game this season, as he’s currently battling an upper-body injury. He’ll become Everett’s third overager, and act as the second and final import player, as forward Peter Melcher is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury.
Moar, Everett’s fifth-round pick in the 2016 draft, has gone pointless in four games this season. The Saskatchewan native will see more ice time on the rebuilding Broncos.
Giants send Malm to Hitmen, receive Nielsen
The Vancouver Giants and Calgary Hitmen made a trade on Wednesday involving a pair of players seeking a change of scenery. The Hitmen will receive the Giants’ leading scorer, 1999-born James Malm, in exchange for Tristen Nielsen. Malm had posted 15 points in 13 games this season, but had been a healthy scratch the past three games after reportedly asking for a trade.
Nielsen has only played five games this season, and none since requesting a trade over two weeks ago. He posted career highs in goals (19) and assists (15) over 49 games last season.
