Heading into the draft, the consensus was that American forward Jack Hughes and Finnish forward Kappo Kakko would go one and two at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and then the Chicago Blackhawks would decide between American forward Alex Turcotte and Vancouver Giants defenseman Bowen Byram with the third overall pick.
