Warriors land import picks Rysavy, Baco

The rich get richer.

The Moose Jaw Warriors confirmed Tuesday that they have added to their already considerable forward corps, officially announcing the commitments of import forwards Martin Rysavy and Robert Baco for the 2021-2022 Western Hockey League campaign.

Rysavy, 18, is a 6-foot-3, 209-pound forward, and was selected in the seventh round, 197th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the recent 2021 National Hockey League draft.

The Warriors picked the Czech Republic native sixth overall in the 2020 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, and he has represented his country at the U16, U17, and U18 levels. Rysavy scored twice for the Czechs at the 2021 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Texas this past April and becomes the fifth NHL drafted current Moose Jaw player alongside Daemon Hunt, Ryder Korczak, Cole Jordan, and Max Wanner.

Rysavy split the 2020-2021 season between HC Vitkovice of the Czech top men’s league, and on-loan with HC Prerov of the Czech second divison.

At 6-foot-3 and 201 pounds, Baco looks to have a similar profile to Rysavy as a right-shot power winger.

A native of Kosice, Slovakia, the 18-year-old Baco notched four points in six games for his country’s Under-18 team in 2020-21 and spent time in the top Czech league with HC Karlovy Vary, as well as with Karlovy Vary’s Under-20 team.

He also featured for Slovakia in 2020 at the prestigious Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, scoring a goal in four appearances at the event.
