Prokop heads to Edmonton

Defenseman Luke Prokop has been traded by the Calgary Hitmen to the Edmonton Oil Kings. In return, the Hitmen receive defensemen Keagan Slaney and Blake Heward, as well as a second-round draft pick at the 2022 WHL Draft. There is also a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024 potentially headed to Calgary.

Prokop, 19, is from Edmonton, AB, and has played in three games this season registering a goal and an assist. He is a 2020 third-round pick of the Nashville Predators.

Slaney, 18, is from Airdrie, AB, and has played five games this season, registering one assist. Was originally a first-round draft pick of the Oil Kings at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Heward, 18, is from Regina, AK, and saw action in three games this season. Originally selected by the Swift Current Broncos in the seventh round of the 2018 WHL Draft.

Pats acquire Sim from Giants

The Regina Pats have acquired 18-year-old goaltender Drew Sim from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Draft.

Sim, who hails from Tees, AB, had not played in a game yet this season. He did suit up for nine games with the Giants in 2020-21 and posted a 5-2-0 record, a 3.20 goals-against average, and a .828 save percentage.

Sceviour signs one-year, two-way contract with Edmonton Oilers

Forward Colton Sceviour (78 goals, 114 assists in 251 games with Portland and Lethbridge) has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

The 32-year-old from Red Deer, AB, played in 46 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2020-21. He registered five goals and five assists. Sceviour was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars. He has scored 64 goals and added 87 assists in 501 games.

Wotherspoon signs with Utica

Defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon (17 goals, 65 assists in 239 games with Portland from 2008-13) has signed with the Utica Comets of the AHL.

The 28-year-old from Surrey, BC, spent the 2020-21 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he registered six assists in 24 games. He was selected in the second round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames and has 30 games of NHL experience and five assists.
