DUB’s Daily Dose: Praught named head coach for Broncos, DUB Weekly Awards, and more!

 

Praught officially named Broncos head coach

Juat over a month after the interim tag was removed from general manager Chad Leslie‘s title, the same was done for Devan Praught who was named the ninth coach in Swift Current Broncos history.

“It means a lot to me and my family, I’m very thankful for my wife Lindsay’s love and support. We have truly enjoyed our time in Swift Current and being a part of the Broncos family,” said Praught in a release by the Broncos. “I’m very thankful to Chad, the board, my staff, the players, the organization and my family for all that we’ve experienced so far and look forward to what comes next.”

Praught, from Summerside, P.E.I., was hired by the Broncos on July 30 as an assistant coach before being named the interim head coach on October 14 following the resignation of Dean Brockman. The Broncos are 18-25-5-2 with Praught at the helm and are in a battle for an Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Nychuk DUB Player of the Week

2001-born Chad Nychuk was named the DUB Player of the Week after collecting 10 points (3G-7A) in just three games. He had two points (2A) on Wednesday against Regina, had a career high five points (1G-4A) against the Hurricanes, and capped it off with three points (2G-1A) on Saturday.

The defenseman has a career high in goals (18), assists (38) and points (56) so far this season and continues to add to that. In 188 career games with the Wheat Kings he has 126 points (30G-96A).

Ernst DUB Goaltender of the Week

Weyburn, SK product Dylan Ernst was named DUB Goaltender of the Week after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a 1.97 goal-against average and a .930 save percentage in those three wins. On Wednesday he made 20 saves in a 7-2 win over the Chiefs, on Friday he stopped 35 in a 4-3 OT win over the Giants, and then kicked out 25 shots in a 2-1 win against the Royals.

The 2004-born goaltender is 14-7-2 in 23 games with a 2.81 GAA, .904 SV%, and two shutouts this season. In his DUB career, he is 17-8-2 with a 2.83 GAA and .900 SV% in 28 games.

Virtanen leaves Moskva

All that is known for certain is that Jake Virtanen (Calgary 2011-15) is no longer part of KHL’s Spartak Moskva according to Russian website Sports-Express “the contract with the forward was terminated for violating the terms of the agreement, the rights are assigned to Spartak. According to the regulations, Virtanen will have to pay 2/3 of the remaining amount of the contract.” In 36 games with the KHL club he had 16 points (9G-7A).

In four DUB seasons, the sixth overall pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 NHL Draft had 161 points (85G-76A) in 192 games all with the Hitmen.
