DUB’s Daily Dose: Firkus leads Team White to win at Top Prospects Game, and more!

 

Team White wins Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects game

Team White beat Team Red 3-1 in the Kubota Top Prospects game that was held in Kitchener, ON.

Shane Wright (Kingston Frontenacs, OHL) opened the scoring early in the game to get Team Red on top 1-0. Team White would go on to score three unanswered in the win. Jagger Firkus (Moose Jaw) replied for Team White before the first was over to tied the game heading into the first break. Jake Karabela (Guelph Storm, OHL) and Nathan Gaucher (Quebec Remparts, QMJHL) scored in the second to give Team White a 3-1 lead heading into the final period. Neither team added to their total in the third period in the Team White win.

Firkus named top player at Top Prospects game

Moose Jaw Warriors forward Firkus picked up a pair of points for Team White with a goal and an assist to lead his team to a 3-1 win. The 17-year-old from Irma, AB is the 33rd ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting.

β€œI just wanted to show my game, and I think I played my game tonight,” Firkus said. β€œI’m happy to prove that. I’m happy to show I can do it on a big stage. It went good tonight and I’m happy we got the win.

β€œIt was super fun. It was a really enjoyable experience, the whole three days here. It was super fun to get to know some new people and it was even better to get the win at the end.”

Menell acquired by the Flyers

Brennan Menell (Vancouver, Lethbridge 2014-17) was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations. The 24-year-old defenseman had been playing with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, skating in 20 games with five points (1G-4A). He will be assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The Woodbury, MN product played 196 games in the DUB where he collected 145 points (21G-124A).
