DUB’s Daily Dose: Wilke debuts, snipes, CHL Top-10, McDonald named to Hockey Order of Canada, and more!

 

Wilke makes DUB debut, snipes

2006-born Trae Wilke who signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Lethbridge Hurricanes on December 30, 2021, made his DUB debut on Wednesday in his hometown of Saskatoon against the Blades. In his first game as a Hurricane, he scored at 10:35 of the second period in a 4-3 OT loss against the Blades.

The 5-ft-11 forward plays with the Saskatoon Blazers of the SMAAAHL where he has 46 points (17G-29A) in 44 games.

Five teams in CHL’s Top-10

The Edmonton Oil Kings remained in the top spot in the CHL Top-10 after running their winning streak to nine games. The Winnipeg ICE and Everett Silvertips both move down spots but remain in the top five at fourth and fifth respectively. The Portland Winterhawks remain at sixth in the country the Kamloops Blazers move up to seventh in the country.

Vanstone joins Trois Rivieres

Tim Vanstone (Prince Albert 2011-17) has joined the Trois-Rivières Lions of the ECHL after completing his USports career with the University of Calgary where he played 16 games in the 2021-22 season picking up 11 points (4G-7A).

In his five-year DUB career all with the Raiders, he skated in 299 games where he collected 94 points (36G-58A).

McDonald named to the Order of Hockey in Canada

Lanny McDonald (Calgary Centennials, Medicine Hat 1970-73) began his DUB career with the Calgary Centennials, appearing in six games during the 1970-71 season before proceeding to log 253 points (112G-141A) in just 136 games over the next two seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers. His number 8 has been retired by the Tigers.

McDonald then went on to collect 1006 points (500G-506A) with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies, and Calgary Flames winning the Stanley Cup in 1988-89. Number 9 has been retired by the Flames in his honor. More information can be found on the WHL release here.

Chyzowski recalled by the Marlies

Ryan Chyzowski (Medicine Hat 2015-21) was recalled by the Toronto Marlies from the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers about a month after being reassigned. In 17 games with the Marlies, the 21-year-old forward had five points, all goals. In 28 games with the Growlers, he has 27 points (12G-15A).

The Kamloops, BC product played his entire DUB career with the Tigers where he played 280 games collecting 217 points (98G-119A) and was team captain for his last season in
