Calgary Hitmen defenseman Egor Zamula has been chosen as one of seven CHL players to represent Russia in the CHL-Russia series. Zamula is off to a hot start with the Hitmen, notching a point in all of Calgary’s games thus far. In total, he’s got four goals and nine assists for 13 points to lead the Hitmen and WHL Defensemen in points. His Hitmen teammates Carson Focht and Jett Woo were named to Team WHL.

The Edmonton Oil Kings have moved up to #3 in the weekly rankings bumping the Prince Albert Raiders down to the #4 spot. The Everett Silvertips have also surfaced on the radar earning an honourable mention.

The Penticton Vees of the BCHL have added goaltender Carl Stankowski (34 GP with the Seattle Thunderbirds and Calgary Hitmen) and forward Tyler Ho (80 GP, 2 G, 10 A with the Vancouver Giants and Saskatoon Blades) in a pair of trades with the BCHL’s Vernon Vipers and CCHL’s Kanata Lasers respectively.

This one slipped past our radar on a busy Canadian Federal Election day. Wil Kushniryk has joined the BCHL’s Prince George Spruce Kings after being released by the Tri-City Americans earlier this season. The veteran of 114 WHL games was held pointless with the Americans in four games this season.
Milestones
- Jake Chiasson opened the scoring for the Brandon Wheat Kings with his first WHL goal.
- Deegan Mofford made his debut for the Kelowna Rockets against the Prince George Cougars
- Tyson Laventure scored his first career goal with less than five seconds on the clock but it was too little too late as his Prince Albert Raiders dropped a 4-3 decision to the Portland Winterhawks.

WHL players across the league will once again don suit jerseys this year as part of the “Suits Up with Don Cherry” campaign in support of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. In its third year, the campaign has already raised more than $450-thousand dollars for the foundation.

The defending champion BC Hockey, led by two goals and an assist from captain Brayden Schuurman (Victoria Royals) picked up a 6-4 win over Saskatchewan Hockey on day one of the 2019 WHL Cup.

In the other WHL Cup matchup on day one, Hockey Alberta defeated Hockey Manitoba 7-3. Billal Noori (Calgary Hitmen) led the way for the Albertans with two goals.

Cody Beach (169 GP, 29 G, 90 A with the Calgary Hitmen and Moose Jaw Warriors) is one of the officials at this year’s WHL Cup. It’s an interesting change of pace for the Nanaimo, BC native who was handed 624 penalty minutes in his WHL career.

After signing with the Anaheim Ducks, Luca Sbisa (109 GP, 14 G, 52 A with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Portland Winterhawks) had to pass through re-entry waivers in order to join the club. He was claimed by the Winnipeg Jets and is now set to join that organization. The blueliner has suited up for 504 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Vegas Golden Knights, and New York Islanders and has tallied 18 goals and 85 assists.

Second Star: Spokane’s Adam Beckman had a goal and four assists in a 7-1 win over Brandon.
