Silvertips add assistant coach

The Everett Silvertips announced on Monday that they had hired Dean Desilva as an assistant coach. He will join Dennis Williams and Louis Mass behind the Silvertips bench.

Desilva served most recently as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Giants and has also had roles with Hockey Canada as an assistant or camp coach for several different teams over the years.

Wheat Kings add Calvert to hockey staff

Former Brandon Wheat Kings captain Matt Calvert has joined the team’s hockey staff as a development coach. Calvert, 31, retired from professional hockey on July 22 of this year following 11 professional seasons.

As a member of the Wheat Kings Calvert scored 99 goals and added 131 assists in 198 games. The Columbus Blue Jackets selected Calvert in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Draft. He went on to play 566 NHL games.

Guenther signs entry-level contract with Coyotes

18-year-old forward Dylan Guenther (41 goals, 46 assists in 78 games with the Edmonton Oil Kings) has signed his entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes. Guenther was the ninth overall selection at the 2021 NHL Draft.

Last season Guenther scored 12 goals and added 12 assists in 12 games with the Oil Kings. He also played in four games with the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders, scoring three goals and adding two assists.

At the World Under-18 championships, Guenther scored four goals and added three assists in seven games as Team Canada took home the gold medal.

Warner retires to enter boxing

25-year-old defenseman Hunter Warner (3 goals, 21 assists in 96 games with the Prince Albert Raiders 2014-16) has retired from professional hockey to pursue a career in professional boxing as stated on his personal Instagram.

Last season Warner played just one game with the only professional team he has ever known, the Iowa Wild. He retires having played 193 AHL games where he scored three goals and added 21 assists.

Report: Virtanen to sign in KHL

As originally reported by Sport24 in Russia, 25-year-old former Calgary Hitmen forward Jake Virtanen (85 goals, 76 assists in 192 games) has been offered a contract by SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL.

Virtanen was bought out of his NHL contract with the Vancouver Canucks following sexual misconduct allegations that have yet to be proven in court. The Vancouver Police Department has launched an investigation into the allegations.

Virtanen had five goals in 38 games with the Canucks in 2020-21.

Reinhart signs with Belfast Giants

27-year-old defenseman Griffin Reinhart (30 goals, 81 assists with the Edmonton Oil Kings 2009-14) has signed with the Belfast Giants of the EIHL.

Reinhart was selected by the New York Islanders fourth overall at the 2012 NHL Draft. He went on to play 37 NHL games with the Islanders and Edmonton Oilers.

Last season Reinhart played 22 games with the Iserlohn Roosters of the DEL, where he scored three goals and added eight assists.

Reinhart was a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings WHL Championships in 2011-12 and 2013-14. The team also won the Memorial Cup in 2013-14.

Rush add Brooks

27-year-old forward Calder Brooks (28 goals, 76 assists in 194 games with Calgary, Prince Albert, and Spokane 2011-15) has signed with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush.

Last season Brooks played for the Jacksonville Icemen and had two assists in 11 games.

Rajala re-signs with EHC Biel-Bienne

30-year-old forward Toni Rajala (26 goals, 37 assists in 60 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings 2009-10) has re-signed with EHC Biel-Bienne of the NL in Switzerland.

Last season, his fifth with the team, Rajala scored 12 times and added 20 assists in 46 games.

Rajala was a fourth-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers at the 2009 NHL Draft.
