The hockey world mourns the passing of Oil Kings forward Reimer

2003-born Edmonton Oil Kings forward Caleb Reimer was one of three people killed on Saturday morning when the car he was in crashed into a tree in Surrey, BC. Condolences came in from around the hockey world once news of the accident became known.
“Caleb Reimer had a bright future ahead and it was rewarding as a coach to see him develop as a person. Despite a shortened schedule, Caleb showed huge improvement in his first season” said Oil Kings coach Brad Lauer in a statement on their website.
“Remembering his first WHL goal – the excitement that he had, the exuberant reaction from his teammates – it was obvious that in a short time he became an integral part of our group.”
16-year-old Ronin Sharma of the BCHL’s Langley Rivermen and Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep’s Parker Magnuson, 17, were also killed in the accident.

The Portland Winterhawks posted a roster update on their website and among the notes was the placement of 2001-born forward Kishaun Gervais on waivers.
The Yorkton, SK product spent the last two seasons in Portland and posted nine goals and 19 points in 50 games. He also played six games with his hometown Terriers in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League this past season and tallied four points.

25-year-old defenseman Travis Sanheim (35 goals, 127 assists in 186 games with Calgary from 2013-16) has inked a two-year contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers worth $4.65 million per season.
The product of Elkhorn, MB has been a full-time player with the Flyers for the last four seasons and has 85 points in 255 games over that stretch.
Rutkowski signs with Kassel of the DEL2 for 2021-22

Edmonton, AB product Troy Rutkowski (61 goals, 155 assists in 351 games with Portland from 2008-13) signed a contract extension for the 2021-22 season with the EC Kassel Huskies of Germany’s DEL2 on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was named DEL2 defenseman of the year in 2020-21 after leading all blueliners with 40 assists and 53 points. It was his first season playing in Kassel after two years skating in Austria.
Augustine traded in the SJHL to Weyburn

Swift Current Broncos defenseman Cayde Augustine had his junior A rights traded on Friday in the SJHL from the Kindersley Klippers to the Weyburn Red Wings.
The 2001-born native of Airdrie, AB played two games for the Klippers in 2020-21 while awaiting the start of the WHL season but didn’t register any points. In 88 career WHL games with Swift Current, Moose Jaw, and Kelowna, Augustine has four goals and 16 points.
