DUB’s Daily Dose: Stankoven, Chaika claim Weekly DUB Awards, Parenteau signs with Marlies, and more!

 

Stankoven named DUB Player of the Week

Blazers captain Logan Stankoven was named the DUB Player of the Week after collecting nine points in just three games.

  • March 30th: four points (2G-2A) in an 8-2 win over the Cougars.
  • April 1st: three points (1G-2A) in a 6-5 loss to the Chiefs.
  • April 3rd: two points (1G-1A) in a 4-3 OT win over the Cougars.

The Kamloops product has moved into a tied for second in the league scoring race with Ben King (Rebels) at 96 points (42G-54). They trail Arshdeep Bains (Rebels) who has 101 points.

Chaika named DUB Goalie of the Week

18-year-old Tikhon Chaika was named DUB Goaltender of the Week after posting an incredible 1.34 goals-against average and .949 save percentage over three games during the week.

  • March 30th: stopped 34 shots in a 2-1 win over the Wheat Kings.
  • April 1st: stopped 15 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Wheat Kings.
  • April 2nd: stopped 25 in a 6-1 win over the Pats.

In a solid rookie season with the Raiders, the Belarussian-born netminder is 20-19-4 with a 2.85 GAA, .903 SV%, and three shutouts in 47 appearances.

Kelly recalled by Ottawa

Parker Kelly (Prince Albert 2015-19) was recalled from the Belleville Senators by the Ottawa Senators. With Ottawa, the 22-year-old has played 27 games where he has five points six points (5G-1A) and with Belleville, he has 14 points (5G-9A) in 33 games.

The Camrose, AB forward played his entire DUB career with the Raiders where he had 188 points (93G-95A) in 273 games while serving as an alternate captain his last two seasons.

Skinner back to Condors

As quickly as Stuart Skinner (Lethbridge, Swift Current 2014-18) was recalled from the Bakersfield Condors by the Edmonton Oilers he was returned to the AHL club. The 23-year-old has split his time between the two clubs. In 13 games with the Oilers, the Edmonton product has a 6-6-0 record with a 2.62 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. With the Condors, he has a 16-4-7 record in 26 games with a 2.28 GAA and .919 SV%.

The Edmonton product played 207 DUB games (182 with the Hurricanes, 25 with the Broncos) going 104-72-9-6 with a 3.22 GAA, .908 SV%, and 12 shutouts.

Parenteau signs professional tryout with Marlies

Rylan Parenteau (Prince Albert, Tri-City 2013-17) has signed a professional tryout with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. The 25-year-old just finished up an incredible season with the U SPORTS University of New Brunswick where he went 14-1-0 with a 1.31 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.

The Saskatoon product played 145 DUB games where he went 69-52-10 with a 3.10 GAA, .904 SV%, and four shutouts.

Christiansen recalled by Blue Jackets

Jake Christiansen (Everett, 2015-20) was recalled from the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL to join the Columbus Blue Jackets. The West Vancouver, BC product has played in 54 games for the Monsters this season where he has 42 points (12G-30A). In five games with the Blue Jackets, he has scored a goal.

In his five-year WHL career, all spent with the Silvertips, Christiansen played in 297 games, He averaged just over 1/2 point per game managing 152 points (50 goals, 102 assists).

Välimäki recalled by Flames

Juuso Välimäki (Tri-City 2015-18) was recalled by the Calgary Flames from the AHL’s Stockton Heat. The 23-year-old has played for both clubs this season, the majority with the Heat. In 30 games with the Heat, he has 17 points (2G-15A). With the Flames, he has skated in eight games where he has a pair of assists.

In 159 DUB games, all with the Americans the Finnish defenseman had 138 points (40G-98A).

Byram recalled by Avalanche

Bowen Byram (Vancouver 2016-20) was recalled from the Colorado Eagles (AHL) by the Avalanche after he finished his conditioning loan. The Cranbrook, BC product had 11 points (5G-6A) in 18 games prior to his injury. He played two games with the Eagles where he had no points.

The 20-year-old fourth overall pick by the Avalanche in 2019 played 188 DUB games – all with the Giants – where the offensively gifted d-man had 150 points (46G-104A).

Macek extends with Avtomobilist

Brooks Macek (Tri-City, Calgary 2008-13) has signed a two-year extension with the KHL’s Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg where he just completed his third season with the club. In 38 games this season the 29-year-old forward had 32 points (15G-17A).

The Winnipeg product played 319 DUB games where he accumulated 256 points (88G-168A).

Winkler extends with HC Innsbruck

Dario Winkler (Brandon, Everett 2015-16) has signed a two-year extension with HC Innsbruck of Austria’s ICEHL. The 24-year-old is in his second season with the club where he played 32 games collecting one goal.

The Austrian-born forward played 59 DUB games where he picked up 12 points (7G-5A).
