Rebels sign 2019 WHL Bantam Draft pick Larson

The Rebels announced a second signing in the last week, as 2004-born prospect Jhett Larson signed his WHL Standard Player Agreement. Larson was selected in the eighth-round (163rd overall) at the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. He was the sixth pick made by the Rebels and the fourth to sign with the Rebels from that draft class.

Last week’s signing was Kalan Lind, first-round draft pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

While with the Notre Dame Midget AAA Hounds last season, Larson scored 14 goals and added 23 assists in 40 games. He will be eligible to join the Rebels full-time for the 2020-21 season.

Larson also played with Team Saskatchewan in the 2019 WHL Cup. In 5 games, he had one goal and four assists for five points as his team won the Championship for the first time.

“Jhett is a riser in his age group who has developed rapidly due to his drive and competitiveness. He starred at the WHL Cup helping lead team (Saskatchewan) to victory at the event. He had a very impressive season with Notre Dame developing into a smart, versatile, gritty two way forward who plays big, can score and make plays,” said Rebels Assistant General Manager Shaun Sutter.

The Notre Dame program has been good for the Rebels in the past. It boasts such draft picks as Haydn Fleury (2011), Cory Millette (2010), and Dalton Siwak (2008).

Scott Feser and Brooks Maxwell are eighth-round picks who made a considerable contribution to the Rebels lineup and fans.

Other Rebels signees from the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft include defensemen Jace Weir and Hunter Mayo, along with forward Carter Anderson.
