Winnipeg ICE Select 11 Players in 2021 WHL Prospects Draft

The Winnipeg ICE have 11 new prospects to develop for their future.

Five forwards, five defensemen, and a goalie will now continue their hockey journeys with a new goal in mind: make the ICE.

Round 1, Pick 18: Jonas Woo – D

Winnipeg Bruins AAA U18

2021-22 Stats: 21 games, 3 goals, 15 assists, 18 points, 26 PIM

A local product becomes the new top prospect in the ICE’s pool.

The brother of Vancouver Canuck’s prospect Jett Woo, Jonas Woo has put together an impressive start to his 15-year-old season. A smart, mobile defender, well suited to the ICE’s systems.

Round 3, Pick 67: Cooper Miles – C

Edge Hockey U16/U18 Prep

2021-22 Stats: 13 games, 8 goals, 20 assists, 28 points, 10 PIM (U16); 3 games, 2 goals,

3 assists, 5 points, 0 PIM (U18)

The Calgary local is over a point-per-game player in two leagues this season. His offensive instincts would fit right in with Winnipeg’s aggressive style of play.

Round 4, Pick 85: Hayden Moore – C/RW

Winnipeg Bruins AAA U18

2021-22 Stats: 21 games, 11 goals, 10 assists, 21 points, 22 PIM

Moore joins his teammate Woo in the ICE’s prospect cupboard. Moore leads the Bruins in scoring this season and is the only player on the team scoring at a point-per-game pace.

Round 6, Pick 116: Kyle Marsden – D

Fort Saskatchewan Rangers U18 AAA

2021-22 Stats: 16 games, 0 goals, 3 assists, 3 points, 14 PIM

Marsden is 6’ 2” and 190 pounds as a 15-year-old.  The Newfoundland-born player could end up being a dominant physical presence in the future.

Round 6, Pick 117: Oscar Lovsin – F

Edge Hockey U16 Prep

2021-22 Stats: 1 game, 0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points, 0 PIM

Lovsin has only appeared in seven games over the past two hockey seasons. It can’t be seen as his fault, and the ICE are hopeful he can develop the talent they’ve seen in their hours scouting him and his teammate Cooper Miles.

Round 6, Pick 129: Carson Reagan – F

Calgary Buffaloes U18 AAA

2021-22 Stats: 12 goals, 5 goals, 1 assist, 6 points, 17 PIM

Another talented offensive player with a good amount of upside. The next two seasons will determine how far up the ICE lineup he’ll go.

Round 8, Pick 156: Chase Bambrick – D

Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA

2021-22 Stats: 20 games, 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points, 8 PIM

A defenseman playing up an age level will always draw eyes, and Bambrick caught the ICE’s eyes enough to get snagged in the 8th round. Only four minors in 20 games is impressive for the young blueliner, showing he doesn’t need to cheat to keep up with older players.

Round 8, Pick 165: Noah Stenvig – G

Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep

2021-22 Stats: 8 games, 7-0-1 record, 2.11 GAA, .896 SP

The only goalie selected by Winnipeg this year, Stenvig has not lost in regulation so far this year. While his save percentage is lower than ideal, the other numbers detail a netminder with a lot of upside.

Round 8, Pick 173: Landon Young – D

Edmonton MLAC U18 AAA
2021-22 Stats: 21 games, 4 goals, 5 assists, 9 points, 10 PIM

No relation to current Winnipeg ICE prospect Brandt Young. Landon Young will hope to follow in the footsteps of the three current Winnipeg ICE defensemen drafted in the 8th round.

Round 10, Pick 217: Turner McIntyre – F

St. Albert Flyers U16 AAA

2021-22 Stats: 16 games, 10 goals, 11 assists, 21 points, 12 points

McIntyre is in his 2nd straight point-per-game season. He sits comfortably in the top three in his team’s scoring.

Round 11, Pick 239: Jagden Taylor – D

Regina Pats Canadians U18 AAA

2021-22 Stats: 21 games, 0 goals, 3 assists, 3 points, 8 PIM

Another defenseman with size finishes out the draft for the Winnipeg ICE.
