Silvertips win lone game and get ready for busy weekend

The Everett Silvertips (9-3-0-0) went out on the road kept their now five-game win streak going with a 3-2 win in Langley against the Vancouver Giants.

Friday, October 25th: Everett 3 @Vancouver 2

Our Stephen Hawco was there and has the game recap here.

The Silvertips fell behind 2-0 but bounced back with three straight goals to take the game 3-2. Martin Fasko-Rudas made his return to the lineup known with a redirection on a Wyatte Wylie shot to get Everett on the board.

Seven straight penalties given to Vancouver paid dividends for the ‘Tips then as Wylie wired a shot through to tie the game and Jackson Berezowski converted a nice feed from Max Patterson to give Everett the 3-2 lead.

Dustin Wolf was solid again in net and cemented winning WHL Goalie of the Month for September/October. He turned away 34-of-36 shots for his seventh win in 10 games played.

Wolf has posted a 1.75 GAA and .945 save percentage so far this season. That is tops among all goalies who have played more than five games.

Berezowski now has eight points in 11 games, giving the ‘Tips some needed secondary scoring.

Wylie’s two points extended his point streak to four games. He has five points in that span. Kindopp’s one assist in the game gives him 19 points in 12 games so far this season.

This week:

Friday, 11/1 vs Portland

It is early but this is a battle for first in the U.S. Division and the first game between the two I-5 rivals. Both teams have played 12 games and Everett has just one more point than Portland to sit atop the division.

Saturday, 11/2 vs Kamloops

The schedule does not get any easier for the Silvertips as they host the top team in the B.C. Division the following night. Everett and Kamloops have split the two games so far in the season series with the Blazers edging the ‘Tips 3-1 last time out.

Sunday, 11/3 @Spokane

The last time Everett was in Spokane, they roared back from a 3-2 third period deficit to win 4-3. The Chiefs also lost Jake McGrew in that game after a fight with Gianni Fairbrother of Everett.

Bear Tracks…

-16-year-old defenseman Olen Zellweger is away at the World U17 Hockey Challenge up in Medicine Hat and Swift Current. He is playing for Team Canada Red, one of the three Canadian teams. Yesterday in their lone pre-tournament game, his squad won 7-6 over the USA in a shootout. The tournament starts for real for him on Saturday against Russia in Swift Current.

-Zellweger’s absence leaves just six available d-men for Everett this weekend.

-Everett goalie coach James Jensen is also at the tournament, serving as Team Canada White’s goalie coach.

-As reported by the Everett Herald’s Josh Horton, Cole Fonstad was injured in practice last week, causing him to miss the game against Vancouver. He was listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury in the weekly report.

-Conrad Mitchell is also back from his ailment. He played his first game since the season’s opening weekend on Friday.

-Rookie forward Jacob Wright is also still out day-to-day with his injury.

-If both Fonstad and Wright are out this weekend, the ‘Tips will only have 12 available forwards.
