Rockets Weekend Wrap Up: Point Streak ends. Lenton,Dochuk called up.

Some things end, Some things begin.

First to the things that end. The Rockets’ regular-season point streak. That ended this weekend at eight after they lost 4-2 to the Portland Winterhawks.

The Winterhawks scored all 4 of their goals in the first period. Marcus Nguyen, Gabe Klassen, Dawson Pasternak, and Jaydon Dureau found the back of the net for Portland. Rockets goaltender Colby Knight was pulled after Jaydon Dureau’s goal at 11:53 after facing 16 shots. Talyn Boyko made 22 saves the rest of the way in relief.

Colton Dach and Turner McMillen scored in the second period for the Rockets.

Lochan Gordon made 23 saves for the win for the Winterhawks.

The win completed a weekend sweep for the Winterhawks over the Rockets. The Winterhawks jumped out to a 5-1 lead. But a late goal from Jake Lee at 18:26 of the second period sparked a three-goal period from the Rockets in the third to tie it at 5-5. In the end, the Winterhawks won in a shootout.

Dante Giannuzzi made 34 saves for the win for the Winterhawks. Talyn Boyko started the game for the Rockets. He allowed all five goals before Colby Knight stopped all 18 shots he faced to help the Rockets come away with one point.

Jaydon Dureau and Kyle Chokowski scored in the first for the Winterhawks. Aidan Litke, Tyson Kozak, and Cross Hanas scored in the second. Hanas also chipped in with two assists. Caden Price, Nolan Flamand, and Steel Quiring scored in the third to tie it; however, Jaydon Dureau scored on the first shootout attempt to seal the win for the Winterhawks.

The officials called a late overtime goal for the Rockets; however, the replay showed that the puck hit the crossbar and did not go in.

With the wins this weekend, the Winterhawks go to 7-9-1-1. They host the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday.

With the losses this weekend, the Rockets fall to 8-4-0-2. They head to Spokane to play the Chiefs on Wednesday.

While the streak ends, new WHL careers will begin. With Head Coach Kris Mallette, Andrew Cristall, and Caden Price off to the Capital City Challenge in Ottawa this week, the Rockets will have two new affiliate players in the lineup.

Greater Vancouver Canadians (GVC) forward Grady Lenton leads the BCEHL U18 in scoring. Lenton has 23 points (8G, 14 A) and 36 penalty minutes in 17 games this season. Lenton has also led GVC to a first-place 13-4-0-1 record this season.

Defenceman Logan Dochuk has three assists in 13 games for the OHA Edmonton Prep in the CSSHL.
