Portland Winterhawks sign Knak and Brøndberg

The Portland Winterhawks announced Monday they have signed their two 2019 CHL Import Draft selections, Simon Knak and Jonas Brøndberg.

Both players will attend training camp and participate in the Neely Cup later in August.

Knak is a 2020 NHL Draft eligible forward listed at six-foot-zero, 185 pounds. As a 2002-born forward, he fits in well with the younger Winterhawks core. A season ago, he scored 14 goals to go along with 11 assists while playing 37 games.

In addition to his regular season, he was the captain of the Swiss under-18 team at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

A quick look at some of Knak’s highlights:

Standing six-foot-four, 183 pounds, he becomes the tallest Winterhawks player on the roster.

Brøndberg is known as a shut-down defenseman who can contribute offensively. In 49 games last season he scored ten points (3G, 7A).

He also led his national team, as he was the captain for Denmark at the Division 1 Group A World Junior Championships.

Brøndberg gives Portland’s blue line another 2001-born left-handed shot. He joins existing defensemen Clay Hanus, Nick Perna, and Kade Nolan.
