WHL Gameday Preview: Tri-City Americans @ Everett Silvertips

DUBNetwork Feature Game of the Night: Sunday, November 24, 2019,  Tri-City Americans 11-8-1-1 @ Everett Silvertips 15-5-1-0 5:05 PM (PST)

Another battle for supremacy within the tight US Division as the Silvertips host the Americans. Both teams are looking to get back on the winning track. Everett lost last night to the Portland Winterhawks and the Tri-City Americans have lost three straight. Seven points separate the teams as they march toward the WHL playoffs in March.

We’ll start with a look a the goaltenders.

Everett has arguably the best goalie in the Western Hockey League over the last season plus. Dustin Wolf is having a typical season for an Everett goaltender. He has a 12-5-0-0 record and a sparkling 2.05 goals against average. His .936 save percentage is tops among goalies with five or more games played.

Sasha Mutala (Photo-Chris Mast)

Beck Warm has struggled some between the pipes for the Americans this season. His 8-8-1-0 record is indicative of his team’s play as he has a 3.18 goals against average. He does see a lot of pucks though, and his .915 save percentage is in the top 10 among regular starters.

Neither team has a scorer in the top 25 of the Western Hockey League. Each team does boast at least one point-per-game player though, as Bryce Kindopp (14G, 9A) and Sasha Mutala (8G,14A) lead the charge for their respective teams.

Wyatte Wylie (Chris Mast)

Wyatte Wylie is the top defenseman between the two teams. From the blue line, he has contributed five goals and 14 assists, which is good for fifth in the WHL. Tri-City’s Samuel Stewart has one goal and eight assists, as the Americans do not receive as much offense from their back end as the Silvertips.

The two teams have split the season series thus far. Tri-City opened the season with a win at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. In October, the Silvertips won at home 5-1 over the Americans.

Along with the ever-present cowbells at the arena in Everett, they are giving away hats to the first 1,000 people through the main doors, so arrive early!
