Kirby Dach and Dylan Cozens will captain their respective teams tonight, both are ranked in the top five available prospects for the upcoming NHL Draft in June.

Dach is ranked just behind American Jack Hughes by NHL Central Scouting. The Saskatoon Blade has 18 goals, and 32 assists good for 50 points in 43 games played this season. Taken in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft in 2016, he’s surely no stranger to being a front runner as far as prospects go.

Dylan Cozens has been an absolute standout this season thus far with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Playing exceptional hockey has not gone unnoticed, Cozens just fresh after earning a number three ranking for NHL Draft Eligibles in 2019. The numbers for the 2001-born don’t lie, 25 goals, and 33 assists for 58 points in 48 games. That’s no small feat in the Western Hockey League, putting up over 50 points in the league is something achieved by few, let alone a 17 year old teenager.

These are just two of some of the top rated players set to hit the ice tonight. A chance for some to put on a performance leaving scouts wanting more.

Just past the halfway mark of the Major Junior season, unlike international events this is an event specifically to showcase the talent in the WHL, OHL, and the QMJHL. For some skaters playing in remote places, this might be some of the highest exposure they get all season.

WHL Action on the schedule:

Tri-City Americans (24-16-2-1) @ Portland Winterhawks (27-13-3-2)

  • Sixth meeting of the season, Tri-City has won all five previous meetings this season the last one a 3-2 nail-biting victory where 19 year-old Kyle Olson (TC) had two goals.
