Daily Dose of the Dub: Americans sign Andregg, Pats and Warriors make roster moves + weekly report

Americans sign Andregg

The Tri-City Americans have signed Bryson Andregg to a WHL Education Contract. Andregg was drafted by the Americans in the ninth round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft and is currently playing with the Delta Hockey Academy Midget Prep team in the CSSHL. In 10 games this season the six-foot defenseman has one goal and two assists.

Pats make a trio of roster moves

The Regina Pats made a trio of roster moves on Tuesday recalling defenseman Parker Berge from the Northern Alberta Extreme Prep (CSSHL) and returning defenseman Layton Feist and goaltender Matthew Kieper to their respective club teams.

Berge is a 2003-born defenseman yet to make his WHL debut. In 24 games with Northern Alberta, he’s tallied six goals and 12 assists. Feist has played three games with the Pats and has not registered a point while Kieper played in one game posting a 10.24 GAA and 0.615 save percentage in a 5-4 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Warriors recall Brenton

The Moose Jaw Warriors have recalled Lucas Brenton from the MMAAAHL’s Winnipeg Thrashers as they deal with injuries on the blueline. In two games with the Warriors this season, Brenton has been held scoreless. The Warriors are currently without Carson Sass (details in the weekly report further down the page) and Cole Jordan on the backend on top of the long-term injury to Daemon Hunt.

CHL Team of the Week

The WHL has a large representation on this week’s CHL Team of the Week with Kamloops Blazers’ forward Zane Franklin and defenseman Max Martin and Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Jiri Patera. Franklin led the way with two goals and eight assists followed closely by Martin who potted two goals and six assists. In between the pipes, Patera posted a 0.50 GAA and .981 Save Percentage in two wins with one shutout.

Canada will play for bronze at Youth Olympics

Canada will play for bronze at the Youth Olympics in Switzerland after falling 2-1 to Dylan Silverstein (Medicine Hat Tigers) and the Americans. Nate Danielson (Brandon Wheat Kings) had the lone Canadian goal assisted by Matthew Savoie (Winnipeg ICE)

Henderson joins Storm

A day after signing with the Edmonton Oil Kings, Jayden Henderson has been called up to the AJHL by the Grande Prairie Storm. Henderson has played one AJHL game and has no points.

Capitals sign Miley

The Summerside Capitals of the Maritime Hockey League have signed defenseman Ryan Miley (3 GP with the Portland Winterhawks in 2018-19). Miley had not been playing hockey this year according to Elite Prospects after spending the majority of last season with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles.

Manning suspended five games for using a racial slur

Brandon Manning (200 GP, 45 G, 91 A with the Chilliwack Bruins from 2007-11) has suspended five games for use of a racial slur in a game between his Bakersfield Condors and the Ontario Reign in the AHL.

Walker inducted into Baseball Hall of Fame

Larry Walker was inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame on Tuesday in his final year of eligibility. Walker’s Hall of Fame career may never have happened if he wasn’t cut twice by the WHL’s Regina Pats in the mid-1980s. Walker’s failed attempts to crack the WHL as a goaltender between the pipes would set off a chain of events that sent him into the batter’s box with the Montreal Expos.

Tigers off-ice official passes away

Weekly Report, report:

Calgary Hitmen:

-Defenseman Andrew Viggars and forward Kyle Olson went from week-to-week to day-to-day with their injuries.

Edmonton Oil Kings:

-Affiliate player Carson Latimer was reassigned to Delta of the CSSHL. Overage forward Ethan McIndoe was added to the report with a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day.

Kamloops Blazers:

-Forward Ryley Appelt returns from his injury.

Kelowna Rockets:

Kyle Topping and Sean Comrie near returning to the lineup as they are now day-to-day. Liam Kindree went from four weeks out to 10 weeks after his surgery.

Lethbridge Hurricanes:

-Defenseman Joe Arnstsen is officially out week-to-week after suffering an injury over the weekend. Brett Davis is listed as out week-to-week and fellow forward Dino Kambeitz went from day-to-day to week-to-week with his lower-body injury. Zack Stringer was out with an illness over the weekend but is not on the report so he must be ready to return.

Medicine Hat Tigers:

-The indefinitely out for forward Elijah Brown has been changed to 2-to-3 weeks.

Moose Jaw Warriors:

-Overage defenseman Carson Sass missed Saturday’s game and is now officially out 1-to-2 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Prince George Cougars:

-After his medical emergency last week, forward Brendan Boyle is listed as out day-to-day with an upper-body injury. 16-year-old forward Blake Eastman is listed as out day-to-day with an illness.

Red Deer Rebels:

-Defenseman Chase Leslie, who was hurt on Friday, is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Regina Pats:

-Captain Austin Pratt left last Tuesday’s game with Portland but played both Friday and Saturday. He is now listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Seattle Thunderbirds:

-Goalie Blake Lyda is officially listed as out day-to-day with an upper-body injury he suffered at practice last week.

Spokane Chiefs:

-Defenseman Bobby Russell missed Saturday’s game against Regina and is now listed as out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Swift Current Broncos:

-Officially sent forward Caleb Wyrostok back to NAX Prep of the CSSHL. He has been off the roster since Saturday. Their blue line has been decimated by injury. Alex Moar and Garrett Sambrook played on Friday and not Saturday. Moar is out week-to-week and Sambrook is day-to-day. Parker Hendren played in both games but is listed as out day-to-day with a lower-body ailment. If Moar or Sambrook cannot go by Wednesday, they may need to call up either Billy Sowa or Devin Aubin or go with five defensemen. Both of them are currently playing for teams based in Alberta.

Tri-City Americans:

-Goalie Talyn Boyko is listed as out “TBD” with a lower-body injury. If he cannot play by Friday, that leaves the Americans with just one signed and healthy goalie in Mason Dunsford. Listed goalie Ronin Geraghty was added to the roster but we do not have him signed in our records. We are awaiting confirmation from the team regarding this but it is our belief he is with the team as an emergency backup.

Connor Bouchard was scratched Saturday and is now listed as out “TBD” with an upper-body injury. Defenseman Carson Haynes was returned to Lethbridge of the AMHL after making his WHL debut Saturday.

Vancouver Giants:

-Forward Krz Plummer, who was hurt on Saturday, is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.

Victoria Royals:

-16-year-old forward Trent Crane has been picked up from the OCN Blizzard of the MJHL. 19-year-old defenseman Ty Ettinger has been sent to Sherwood Park of the AJHL. Three players who were out parts or all of last weekend were officially listed. Kaid Oliver missed Saturday and is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Sean Gulka, who also missed Saturday, is week-to-week with an upper-body ailment and goalie Shane Farkas is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Keegan Maddocks was reassigned to Delta Prep though so maybe he is close to returning as Adam Evanoff is the only other goalie on the roster.
