End of an era

There is a difference between quitting and knowing when your time has come.

This is how I feel about my decision to resign from DUBNetwork effective December 1, 2021.

Over the last five-plus years, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to attend hockey games in several cities, received access to some of the premier events that WHL teams and players have participated in, put together a staff of as many as 20 people, and had an outlet to express my passion for the Western Hockey League, its players, coaches, staff, and fans.

I am very grateful for everything the WHL has given me.

Jesse and I assembled a very good website that evolved out of our original idea of a WHL Stats website.

DUBNetwork has gone on to publish more than 4500 articles in the last five years, as well as multiple pages with information updated frequently. Our pages were viewed more than two million times by thousands of people across the globe. I wrote more than 700 articles myself while managing multiple facets of the business.

On more than one occasion we broke news that broke our website. That was both exciting and disappointing, looking back it gives me a reason to smirk. Who would have thought we could reach those heights?

We did our best to navigate COVID-19, including a temporary shutdown. Many praised us for our quick response to the changing environment including our own COVID policies for our writers.

Thank you to all of the writers that have come through the “doors” at DUBNetwork over the years. Without you, we wouldn’t have had a site to begin with.

Thank you to the Western Hockey League and its teams for believing in my vision. I am sorry that I was unable to see it through to greater heights.

I am very proud of the work we accomplished. Sure, there were areas I could have done better in. I’ve learned so much on this journey and I am grateful for everyone that played a part. There are so many people and organizations to thank but I will save that for the opportunities to see them in person or send them a private message.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Darren Dupont and Rod Pedersen. I believe that the site and the remaining staff are in good hands.

You haven’t seen the last of me, there are other projects on the horizon.

Thank you,

Paul Figler
