Raiders top Pats in shootout

The crazy train was rolling tonight in Regina. Ozzy Wiesblatt scored twice while Ilya Usau scored the only goal in the shootout as the Prince Albert Raiders won 3-2.

The back and forth affair started with over five minutes minutes of continuous play but only one shot on goal for each team. It was a feeling out process for both teams as they looked tentative. The Pats converted on their fourth power play of the period when Austin Pratt grabbed a loose puck and made a nice move around Boston Bilous to open the scoring.

The second period was when the Ozzy Wiesblatt train picked up steam. Wiesblatt looked good all night, he played with speed and confidence. He had a game-high five shots on net. His first goal of the night came when he knocked down a Sloan Stanick clearing attempt and promptly deposited it into the back of the net.

Just over four minutes later Ozzy was able to tap in a power-play goal after he was the recipient of a couple bounces off a point shot.

The feeling out process was gone in the second period as the players regularly carried on some rough stuff after the whistles. Prince Albert had seven power plays in the game to Regina’s five.

Newly signed Carter Serhyenko started the third period in net for the Raiders. The 17-year-old had just signed his Standard Player Agreement earlier in the day. Ty Kolle was able to slip a puck past him short side early in the period but Carter was able to shut the door the rest of the way. He made 14 saves on 15 shots plus he stopped all three Regina shooters in the shoot out.
