Warriors’ Hunt signs with Wild

ST. PAUL, MN – Moose Jaw Warriors’ captain and defenceman Daemon Hunt has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild, the NHL club announced Thursday.

Hunt, 18, captained the Warriors at the Subway WHL Hub, and posted eight goals and 18 points in 23 games over the campaign.

A native of Brandon, MB, Hunt has played 123 regular and post-season games for Moose Jaw, and has scored 55 points over that span.

Hunt announced his intentions to return to the Warriors for his 19-year-old year at the club’s year-end press conference on Apr. 26.

“I am excited for next year,” said Hunt right after Moose Jaw’s season finale.

“We brought a lot of young talent here, so I am thrilled that I’ll be back, and we should be so excited for the future here in Moose Jaw. I am really impressed by our young guys, they all got a lot better as the Hub went along, so I expect that next year we’ll be that much better.”

Hunt, who was selected in the third round, 65th overall by the Wild in the 2020 National Hockey League draft, played three games for their American Hockey League affiliate in Iowa before the Regina Hub, and re-joined them days after its conclusion. He has yet to play in a game since his return to Iowa, at time of writing.

The 6-foot-1, 198-pounder has also represented Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, the IIHF World Under-18s, and the World Under-17 Challenge, and was chosen for Hockey Canada’s Selection Camp for the latest IIHF World U-20s.
