Owen Pederson Named WHL Player of the Week

Owen Pederson’s great work against Brandon made him the WHL Player of the Week for week one of the season.

The 19-year-old recorded six points (3G-3A) in two games this past week as the ICE posted a pair of victories over their provincial rivals.

The veteran left-winger put up two points (1G-1A) and registered a team-leading nine shots on goal in the season opener last Friday. His production helped lead the way to a 10-2 victory in Brandon.

The next night, he enjoyed a four-point night (2G-2A), scoring the game-winning goal on a power play 6:19 into the second period as the ICE posted a 7-1 victory in their home opener.

Pederson finished the weekend as the early leader in the WHL scoring race, one point better than a trio of players including Winnipeg teammate Mikey Milne.

It’s a great start to the year for Pederson, who is looking to audition himself to NHL teams after passing through the 2021 draft unselected.

Winnipeg expects to see more out of him and the rest of the ICE as the season continues on Friday.

The 7-1 win over the Wheat Kings over started a three-game homestand that continues this week. On Wednesday, October 6, Connor Bedard comes to Winnipeg for the first time with the Regina Pats. On Saturday, October 9, Winnipeg faces off with the Prince Albert Raiders for the first time this year.
