First-place Silvertips dump Royals 4-2

The Everett Silvertips outshot the visiting Victoria Royals 62-23 in a 4-2 win before 5,277 at the Angel Of The Winds Arena in Kent. The win was the Silvertips sixth straight and moved to 31-7-2-2 on the season, taking a three-point lead in the DUB standings.

All six goals in the game were scored in the second period. Gannon Laroque (sixth) opened the scoring for the Royals at 3:28 of the second. Niko Huuhtanen (23rd) scored the first of four-straight Silvertips goals 1:26 later. Michel Gut (ninth) on the powerplay, Ben Hemmerling (fifth), and Aidan Sutter (third) gave the Tips 2-1, 3-1, and 4-1 leads. Anthony Wilson (fifth scored with nine seconds left in the second to make the game 4-2. There was no scoring in the third period.

The shots on goal by period were 9-7, 34-6, and 19-10 for the Silvertips.

Braden Holt made 21 saves for the Silvertips as he picked up his 19th win of the season. Campbell Arnold made an astronomical 58 saves in the loss. The boxscore.

Thunderbirds rout Cougars 7-2

The Seattle Thunderbirds dominated the Prince George Cougars on the shot clock 48-22 and on the scoreboard 7-2. The hometown Thunderbirds scored three times in the first, once in the second, and three more in the third as 2,416 onlookers watched on at Accesso ShoWare Center.

Lukas Svejkovsky scored his first two goals in a Thunderbirds uniform (14th, 15th), Leon Okonkwo Prada (second), Reid Schaefer (17th), Jared Davidson (21st), Lucas Ciona (11th), and Matthew Rempe (10th) scored for Seattle. Koehn Zimmer (19th) and Ryker Singer (fifth) replied for the Cougars.

Thomas Milic made 20 saves in the Thunderbirds net to pick up his 16th win of the season. Ty Young went the distance for the Cougars stopping 41 shots. The boxscore.

Rockets win seventh in a row in 4-1 win over Chiefs

Mark Liwiski scored twice and Talyn Boyko made 24 saves as the Kelowna Rockets beat the Spokane Chiefs 4-1 before 5,036 in Spokane.

Liwiski (12th) opened the scoring for the Rockets 4:56 into the second period and Nolan Flamand (sixth) scored less than three minutes later to give the Rockets a 2-0 lead. Bear Hughes (14th) scored before the second ended to get the Chiefs on the board and make it a one-goal lead. Liwiski scored his second of the game (13th) and Pavel Novak (19th) scored to give the Rockets an insurmountable 4-1 lead and win.

With the win, Boyko moved to 16-5-1-1 with the Rockets. Mason Beaupit made 35 stops for the Chiefs in the loss. The boxscore.

Winterhawks continue hot streak with 6-0 win over Americans

The Portland WWWWWWWWinterhawks won their eighth straight contest with a 6-0 win over the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick. The Winterhawks are on fire right now and are 14-0-0-1 in their last 15 games.

The Winterhawks scored twice in each period with James Stefan leading the way with a pair of goals (21st, 22nd), Gabe Klassen (17th), Cross Hanas (15th), Marcu Nguyen (ninth), and Kyle Chyzowski (sixth) scored in the win.

Overage goaltender Taylor Gauthier picked up his second straight shutout making 25 saves and moved to a perfect 8-0-0-0 with the Winterhawks. Tomas Suchanek made 36 saves in the loss for the Americans. The boxscore.

Blazers hold off Giants in 3-2 win to win seventh in a row

Fraser Minten’s 12th of the season in the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Kamloops Blazers held off the Vancouver Giants 3-2 in Langley.

Jacob Boucher (11th) opened the scoring for the Giants in the first period before the Blazers tied it and took the lead heading into the second period. Matthew Seminoff (17th) and Logan Stankoven (24th) notched markers late in the opening stanza 1:35 apart to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead after forty minutes. Zack Ostapchuk (10th) scored the lone goal of the middle period to tie the game heading to the third. Minten gave the Blazers the lead at 13:05 and a 3-2 win.

Dylan Garand made 23 saves for the Blazers to move to 23-6-0-0 on the season as the Blazers won their seventh in a row. Jesper Vikman stopped 28 shots for the Giants. The boxscore.

Rebels grind out 2-1 win over hometown Raiders

2,144 spectators watched as the visiting Red Deer Rebels beat their hometown Prince Albert Raiders 2-1 in a defensive contest Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.

The only three goals scored in the game were tallied in a seven-minute span in the second period. Hunter Mayo (second) opened the scoring at 11:34 for the Rebels and just under four minutes later Ben King scored his league-leading 34th goal of the season and eventual game-winner at 15:23. Ozzy Wiesblatt scored his ninth of the season at 17:58 to get the Raiders on the board but it was not enough as the Rebels held on for the 2-1 win.

Both netminders played well in the contest. Chase Coward made 23 saves to pick up his 12th win of the season. Tikhon Chaika made 27 saves for the Raiders. The boxscore.

Blades crown Oil Kings 6-1

The Saskatoon Blades made the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings pay with almost every shot in a 6-1 win over the Eastern Conference leaders at the SaskTel Centre. 2,407 fans witnessed the six different Blades score on just 16 shots in the contest and Nolan Maier made 38 saves to pick up the win for the Blades.

The Blades took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on goals by Rhett Rhinehart (fifth) and Jayden Wiens (15th). Jake Neighbours (11th) replied to get Oil Kings back to within one at 6:24 of the second period. The Blades scored a trio of goals within a three-minute span late in the second period. Kyle Crnkovic (26th) at 16:36, Kyren Gronick (sixth) at 17:48, and Aiden De La Gorgendiere (fourth) at 19:30 gave the Blades a 5-1 lead after forty minutes. Tyler Parr notched his second goal of the season to round out the scoring at 11:32 of the third period to make it a 6-1 game.

The win was Maier’s 19th of the campaign and 110th of his career. The Oil Kings goaltenders each had a rough time, Sebastian Cossa stopped 10 of 15 shots through the first two periods of play before Kolby Hay replaced him for the third period, Hay faced one shot from the Blades that eluded him. Warriors win seventh in a row beating the Broncos 3-1

The Moose Jaw Warriors scored three unanswered goals as they beat the hometown Swift Current Broncos 3-1 at the Innovation Credit Union i-plex.

1,311 faithful saw Josh Filmon score late in the first to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Atley Calvert tied the game up at 2:56 of the second for the Warriors with his 11th goal of the season. Eric Alarie (11th) scored the eventual game-winner on the powerplay at 13:33 of the second period giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. Alarie (12th) scored his second of the game giving the Warriors a 3-1 lead, sealing the game at 4:08 of the third.

Carl Tetachuk made 27 saves to pick up his 20th win of the season for the Warriors who won their seventh straight contest. Isaac Poulter made 25 saves in the loss. The boxscore.
