Blazers get back on track with 6-1 win over Americans

The Kamloops Blazers got back to their winning ways with a 6-1 win over the visiting Tri-City Americans and are now 9-1-0 in their last 10 games. Kamloops scored the first six goals of the game outshot the Americans 49-18 before 2957 at the Sandman Centre.

Luke Toporowski (27th, 28th) and Logan Stankoven (26th, 27th) led the way with a pair of markers each in the game. Stankoven’s first goal extended his point streak to 15 games. Drew Englot (ninth) and Daylan Kuefler (23rd) rounded out the Blazers six-goal barrage. Samuel Huo replied for the Americans at 7:08 of the third period.

Dylan Ernst was tested just 18 times, stopping 17 of them as he picked up his eighth win of the season. Tomas Suchanek got the start for the Americans and was pulled after the opening frame after allowing four goals on 18 shots. Nick Avakyan stopped 29 of 31 in 40 minutes of relief.

The Blazers went 2-for-5 on the powerplay, the Americans went 0-for-2. The boxscore.

Rockets beat Silvertips 4-3 in a shootout

The Kelowna Rockets halted the Everett Silvertips eight-game winning streak with a 4-3 SO win at Prospera Place in Kelowna. The two teams exchanged goals three times through two periods of play and no one scored in the third as the game headed to overtime. Pavel Novak was the lone goal scorer in the shootout for the Rockets.

Colton Dach (15th) got the Rockets on the board 2:48 into the first period before Everett’s Austin Roest (eighth) tied it up less than three minutes later. Gabriel Szturc (eighth) put the Rockets back up by a single ar 12:26 of the first. Ryan Hofer (22nd) tied the game at 2-2 before the end of the opening stanza. Nolan Flamand (eighth) scored just past the halfway point of the second period to get them back on top 3-2. Olen Zellweger scored with just over two minutes left in the second to knot the game at 3-3 heading into the second intermission.

The Rockets shot first in the shootout and Novak was up first, he scored on Braden Holt was the shootout winner for the Rockets.

Talyn Boyko stopped 34 of 37 Silvertips in the win as he moved to 17-6-1-1 in his tenure with the Rockets. Holt stopped 24 of 27 shots in the loss. The Silvertips went 1-for-3 on the powerplay and the Rockets went 1-for-1. The boxscore.

Giants end skid with 4-1 win over Cougars

The Vancouver Giants opened the scoring and never looked back in a 4-1 win over the Prince George Cougars. Ty Thorpe scored twice for the Giants to lead the way before 1,670 at the CN Centre.

Thorpe’s 11th of the season got the Giants on the board late in the first period. Neither team managed another goal until the early stages of the third period when Fabian Lysell (14th) and Justin Lies (eighth) scored at 2:56 and 3:47 of the third period respectively. Thorpe (12th) added an empty-net goal with 1:27 left to give the Giants a 4-0 lead. Carter MacAdams (seventh) scored to spoil the Giants shutout bid with 48 seconds left.

Jesper Vikman stopped 34 of 35 shots and was 48 seconds shy of picking up his third shutout of the season. Ty Brennan stopped 26 of 29 shots in the loss for the Cougars who have lost four-straight games (0-3-1-0). The boxscore.

Winterhawks continue torrid pace in 8-1 win over Chiefs

The Portland Winterhawks picked up their 11th straight win as they beat the Spokane Chiefs 8-1 in Spokane and moved to 17-0-0-1 in their last 18 games. Cross Hanas scored a hat-trick (16th, 17th, 18th) to lead the way for the Winterhawks who scored the first three goals of the game and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. The Hawks scored twice in the second and three more in the third for the 8-1 win.

Ryan McCleary (fifth, 6th) scored twice for the Winterhawks, while Jaydon Dureau (13th), Aidan Litke (13th), and Marek Alscher (fifth) rounded out the scoring for the Winterhawks who outshot the Chiefs 44-26 along the way. Erik Aitchison replied for the Chiefs with a powerplay goal late in the first period to get the Chiefs on the board.

Taylor Gauthier stopped 25 of 26 shots to give his 10th win in 10 games for the Winterhawks since his trade. Manny Panghi went the distance for the Chiefs as he stopped 36 shots. The boxscore.

Thunderbirds roll to 6-1 win over Royals

The Seattle Thunderbirds won their third-straight game with a convincing 6-1 win over the hometown Victoria Royals. The T-Birds went 2-for-9 on the powerplay and outshot the Royals 37-15 in the contest.

Brayden Schuurman (24th) opened the scoring for the Royals just before the halfway point of the first period to give the hometown squad a 1-0 lead. The Thunderbirds went on to score six unanswered goals in the win. Lukas Svejkovsky (17th, 18th) and Reid Schaefer (20th. 21st) each scored twice while Henrik Rybinski (15th) and Jared Davidson (22nd) each added singles for the winners.

Thomas Milic picked up his 17th win of the season as he needed to make just 14 saves. Tyler Palmer stopped 31 of 37 shots in the loss for the Royals who have gone 0-14-0-1 in their last 15 games. The boxscore.

Broncos beat Wheat Kings in OT

Despite being outshot 49-25 the Swift Current Broncos beat the hometown Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 in the extra frame. 2,385 watched as seven different players scored in the contest.

Cole Nagy (11th) opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker for the Broncos to give them a 1-0 lead. Marcus Kallionkieli (ninth) replied with a powerplay goal on the same man advantage exactly one minute later. Chad Nychuk (12th) gave Brandon a 2-1 lead less than two minutes later. Grayson Burzynski (third) tied the game less than a minute later at 5:24. Karson King (first career) gave the Broncos a 3-2 lead before the end of the second period. Nate Danielson (13th) tied the game up at 14:26 of the third to force overtime. Connor Hvidston (sixth) ended the contest at 2:36 of overtime giving the Broncos the 4-3 victory.

Reid Dyck was outstanding in goal, stopping 46 of 49 shots directed his way. Carson Bjarnason made 21 saves in the loss. The boxscore.

Warriors beat Raiders 3-1

The Moose Jaw Warriors scored three first-period goals and that was all they needed in a 3-1 win over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders.

Maximus Wanner (fourth) and Jagger Firkus (27th) scored before the game was two minutes old to give the Warriors 2-0. Daemon Hunt (13th) scored at 11:43 giving the Warriors a 3-0 lead heading to the first intermission. Reece Vitelli scored at 13:21 of the third period getting the Raiders on the board with his 15th goal of the season, but it was not enough in a 3-1 loss.

Carl Tetachuk stopped 23 of 24 shots in the Warriors win. Max Hilderbrand stopped 20 of 23 shots in the loss. The boxscore.

Oil Kings shutout Rebels 4-0

Justin Sourdif scored twice and Sebastian Cossa made 21 saves in a 4-0 Edmonton Oil Kings win over the Red Deer Rebels before 3,411 at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

Sourdif (12th) opened the scoring 5:42 into the first period with the eventual game-winner. Tyler Horstmann (first), Sourdif (13th), and Kaiden Guhle (sixth-empty netter) added to the Oil Kings total with goals in the third period.

The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 21-5 in the first period and 37-21 overall in the game.

Cossa moved to 23-6-2-1 on the season and his shutout was his fifth of the season and 13th of his career. Connor Ungar stopped 33 of the 36 shots he faced in the loss. The boxscore.

Blades beat Hurricanes 4-1

The Saskatoon Blades scored the opening two and final two goals in a 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes before 3138 at the SaskTel Centre. Four different Blades counted markers in the win.

Brandon Lisowsky (24th) and Jayden Wiens (16th) opened the scoring in the middle stanza to give the Blades a 2-0 lead heading into the third period. Tyson Laventure (seventh) got the Hurricanes on the board and to within one early in the third period. Trevor Wong (eighth) and Egor Sidorov (11th) sealed the game with two goals in the third to give the Blades the 4-1 win.

Nolan Maier stopped 29 shots to move to 21-13-1-1 and pick up the Blades’ 25th win of the season. Bryan Thomson stopped 31 shots in the loss for the Hurricanes. The boxscore.
