Miner signs ELC with Avalanche

Goaltender Trent Miner (84GP, 48-28-5, 2.49GAA, .910sv% with Vancouver) has signed his three-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche. In 2020-21, Miner was 7-8-0 with the Giants, with a 2.16 goals-against average and .915 save percentage. The Avalanche selected Miner in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Draft and had until June 1 to sign him. Miner will be eligible to return to the Giants in 2021-22 but signed 20-year-old players often play in the professional ranks.

Bourke signs with Karpat

Forward Troy Bourke (276GP, 84G, 152A with Prince George ’09-’14) has signed with Oulun Karpat of Liiga in Finland. Bourke played the 2020-21 season with Schwenninger Wild Wings of the DEL, scoring 15 goals and adding 19 assists. The Colorado Avalanche selected Bourke in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Butcher signs with HC Vita Hasten

Forward Chad Butcher (301GP, 82G, 177A with Medicine Hat ’11-’17) has signed with HC Vita Hasten of the SHL in Sweden. Last season Butcher played for the Allen Americans of the ECHL. In 29 games with the team Butcher scored six goals and added 11 assists.

Fowlie joins FTC

Forward Cody Fowlie (208GP, 38G, 59A with Everett and Kelowna ’09-’13) has signed with Ferencvarosi TC of the Erste Liga in Hungary. Fowlie spent 2020-21 split between ASC Corona Brasov’s Erste Liga team (15GP, 4G, 7A) and their Romainian league team (15GP, 10G, 12A).

Dansereau signs with MAC HKB

Forward Keegan Dansereau (311GP, 108G, 133A with Calgary and Swift Current ’03-’09) has signed with Erste Liga team MAC HBK Ujbuda. Dansereau has spent the last seven seasons playing for various teams in Hungary. Last season he played 27 games with Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák scoring 14 goals and adding 22 assists. 

Louis signs for fifth season in Cardiff

Defenseman Mark Louis (303GP, 10G, 40A with Brandon and Red Deer ’03-’08) has signed to return to the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL for a fifth season. Last season Louis played 42 games for HK Dukla Michalovce of the Slovakian league, scoring one goal and adding five assists. Louis also had one assist in nine playoff games.

Hodder departs WHL Head Office

The Manager of Player Development, Zach Hodder, has departed his position with the Western Hockey League. Hodder spent three years with the organization.

Two Rebels coaches part ways with the team

Assistant Coach Brad Flynn and Goaltending Coach Kraymer Barnstable did not have their contracts renewed by the Red Deer Rebels. Flynn and Barnstable had both just completed their third seasons with the team.
