Nguyen scores first WHL goal

Portland Winterhawks 2004-born forward Marcus Nguyen scored his first WHL goal in last night’s 9-1 win over the Tri-City Americans. The Calgary, AB product scored the Winterhawks 9th goal at 16:39 of the third period. Portland selected Nguyen in the 11th round of the 2019 WHL Draft.

Sydor scores first WHL goal

Kamloops Blazers 2003-born forward Dylan Sydor scored the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night. Sydor’s first goal of the season came at 12:50 of the first period in his 13th game of the season. The Blazers signed Sydor on March 19th, 2021.

Brooks released by Icemen

Forward Calder Brooks (194GP, 48G, 76A with Calgary, Prince Albert, and Spokane ’11-’15) was released by the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL on Sunday. Brooks was in his first season with the team following a season spent overseas. He had two assists in 11 games with the Icemen.

McCartney earns first professional point

Forward Ben McCartney (205GP, 61G, 90A with Brandon) scored his first professional goal with the Tucson Roadrunners on Saturday night against the Texas Stars. McCartney also added an assist in the 5-2 win. In 24 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings this season, the MacDonald, MB product scored 13 goals and added 24 assists. McCartney is an unsigned seventh-round 2020 NHL Draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes.
