ICE sign Harmacy

The Winnipeg ICE announced they have signed 2020 eighth-round draft pick defenseman Omen Harmacy to a Standard Player Agreement. Harmacy, from Winnipeg, MB, played for Shattuck St. Mary’s 15U AAA club in 2020-21, scoring twice and adding 13 assists in 35 games.

Ng scores first WHL goal

Everett Silvertips 2004-born forward Matthew Ng scored his first WHL goal last night as the Everett Silvertips downed the Spokane Chiefs 5-1. Ng’s game-winning goal came at 4:12 of the second period and gave the Silvertips a 2-0 lead. Ng was a listed player out of Cupertino, California.

Sapego signed by Dinamo Minsk

Defenseman Sergei Sapego (102GP, 14G, 48A with Tri-City and Prince Albert ’17-’19) has been signed by Dinamo Minsk of the KHL. Sapego played just two games in 2020-21, both with the Toronto Marlies. The Tri-City Americans selected Sapego 96th overall at the 2017 CHL Import Draft. Was a member of the 2018-19 WHL Champion Prince Albert Raiders.

MacKenzie signs with HC Slovan Bratislava

Defenseman Matt MacKenzie (225GP, 18G, 79A with Calgary and Tri-City ’07-’11) has signed with HC Slovan Bratislava for the 2021-22 season. MacKenzie is coming off a season in which he scored nine goals and added 16 assists through 50 games with Dornbirner EC of ICEHL. Formerly a third-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres at the 2010 NHL Draft.

Leipsic traded to Metallurg Magnitogorsk

Forward Brendan Leipsic (261GP, 132G, 170A with Portland ’10-’14) has been traded for Lias Andersson by CSKA Moskva. He will join Metallurg Magnitogorsk for the 2021-22 season. With CSKA, Leipsic scored 11 goals and added 13 assists in 42 games. He also had three goals and five assists in 16 playoff games. Leipsic is a former third-round 2012 NHL Draft pick of the Nashville Predators. Leipsic played 187 NHL games for five different teams.

Ellerby leaves Ferencvarosi TC

Defenseman Keaton Ellerby (266GP, 6G, 54A with Kamloops and Moose Jaw ’04-’08) has departed Ferencvarosi TC of the Erste Liga. Ellerby had four goals and 12 assists in 34 games with Ferencvarosi and added two assists in 10 playoff games. The Florida Panthers selected Ellerby in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft. He played 212 games in the NHL with three different teams.

Lieffers commits to Nipissing University

Forward Eli Lieffers (11GP, 1G, 1A with Kootenay ICE ’15-’18) has committed to Nipissing University. Lieffers spent the 2020-21 season split between the Neepawa Natives (6GP, 2G, 4A) and the Northern Colorado Eagles (3GP, 0G, 3A).
