Warriors join the dance

Despite not playing on Friday night, the Moose Jaw Warriors earned their place in the DUB playoffs. The Prince Albert Raiders lost 5-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings which means the ninth-place Raiders have no way to catch the Warriors as they have 53 points and only 18 points available which would make it impossible to get to 73 points. Congrats to the Warriors.

Blades clinch postseason spot

With their win over the Regina Pats, the Saskatoon Blades punched their ticket to the postseason with 72 points. The ninth place Prince Albert Raiders lost and now have no way to catch the Blades.

Dietterle newest recipient of the WHL Milestone Award

13-year lineman Ron Dietterle was given the WHL Milestone Award which is presented to WHL players, coaches, trainers, officials, and WHL Championship teams for their outstanding achievements.

The Abbotsford, BC product worked his first DUB regular-season game in 2008-09 and has done more than 400 games so far in his career.

Schneider dents the twine for first DUB goal

In his 56th career game, 2003-born Marek Schneider scored his first career DUB goal in a 3-1 win over the Regina Pats. His goal was the game-winner which just so happened to help the Blades clinch a playoff spot. The defenseman from Prince Albert now has six career points (1G-5A).

Pickard recalled by Red Wings

Calvin Pickard (Seattle 2008-12) was recalled by the Detroit Red Wings from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. So far this season, Pickard has played in two games (1-1-0) with the Red Wings picking up a 2.90 goals-against average and .915 save percentage. With the Griffins, he has played in 43 games going 21-16-6 with a 2.58 GAA and .918 SV%.

The four-year DUB netminder tended goal his entire 241 game career with the Thunderbirds. He had a career 91-120-27 record with 12 shutouts, a 3.29 GAA, and a .909 SV%.

Lees traded to Lions

Jesse Lees (Kelowna, Prince Albert 2010-16) was traded by the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) to the Trois-Rivieres Lions. He had played 20 games with the Nailers where he had six points (4G-2A). He also had a professional tryout with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch where he skated in 17 games adding three assists.

The Calgary product started his DUB career with the Rockets before spending the last season and a half with the Raiders. In 294 games, the defenseman collected 162 points (55G-107A).

Lees then retires

According to Matthew Vachon (who covers the Lions for the le Nouvelliste), Lees decided to retire from hockey.

Flodell released by Belleville

Logan Flodell (Seattle, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Lethbridge 2013-18) was released from his professional tryout with the Belleville Senators (AHL) and will return to the Reading Royals (ECHL).

Flodell joined the pro ranks when he signed with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL on December 29, 2021.

With Acadia University (USports), Flodell played 14 games going 4-9-0 with a 3.97 GAA and a .890 SV%. With the Stingrays he has played six games, going 1-4-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .886 SV% and 1 shutout. With the Henderson Silver Knights (AHL), he never got any game action. With the Belleville Senators (AHL) he played three games going 0-1-1 with a 3.60 GAA and a .881 SV%. Now that he is back in Reading, he can add to his numbers there where he played six contests going 5-0-1 with a 2.09 GAA and a .932 SV%.

The Regina, SK product played 161 games over his WHL career going 86-53-13 with a 2.92 GAA, .908 SV%, and nine shutouts.

Guhle recalled by Ducks

24-year-old defenseman Brendan Guhle (Prince Albert, Prince George 2013-17) was recalled by the Anaheim Ducks from the San Diego Gulls (AHL). He has spent time with both teams this season. In six games with the Ducks, he has been held off of the scoresheet. With the Gulls, he has suited up for 35 contests where he has six points (2G-4A).

The Edmonton, AB product played the majority of his DUB career with the Raiders before a trade to the Cougars for the last stretch of his career. In 233 career games, he notched 103 points (30G-73A).

Sillinger signs with Monsters

One-time DUB prospect Owen Sillinger (Vancouver’s 10th round pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft) has signed a professional tryout for the remainder of the 2021-22 season and an AHL contract for the 2022-23 season.

24-year-old Owen is the brother of Cole Sillinger and Lukas Sillinger (one-time Pats prospect) and the son of Mike Sillinger.

Kraken recall Rask

Victor Rask (Calgary 2011-13) was recalled the NHL’s Seattle Kraken. The 28-year-old has played 29 games with Minnesota he had picked up 13 points (5G-8A), he had joined the Wild during the 2018-19 season. In 10 games with Iowa, he had 10 points (2G-8A). He had been assigned to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) but never played any games with the club.

In two DUB seasons with the Hitmen, the Leksand, Sweden product played 101 games where he averaged 1.04 points-per-game with 104 (47G-57A).

Christoffer extends with JYP

27-year-old Braden Christoffer (Regina 2012-15) signed a one-year contract extension with the JYP (Finland’s Liiga). The first-year Liiga player is one of the club’s alternate captains where he has put up 33 points (12G-21A) in 57 games to go along with 144 penalty minutes.

The forward from Sherwood Park, AB played his 202 game DUB career with the Pats where he had 114 points (50G-64) in 202 games.
