Brandt Group becomes sole owners of Regina Pats

The Regina Pats announced on Friday that the Brandt Group headed by CEO Shaun Semple has purchased the remaining share of the Pats from the Queen City Sports and Entertainment Group consortium. The deal was approved by the WHL’s Board of Governors and the deal is effective immediately. Current Pats President Todd Lumbard will remain with the team in an advisory capacity.

Winnipeg ICE name leadership group

The Winnipeg ICE announced their leadership group on Friday, led by captain Peyton Krebs (175GP, 49G, 139A). Joining Krebs are 2002-born forward Connor McClennon (93GP, 35G, 43A), 2001-born forward Jakin Smallwood (131GP, 27G, 26A), and 2003-born defenceman Carson Lambos (62GP, 9G, 24A) as assistant captains.

Winterhawks update season schedule

The Portland Winterhawks announced on Friday that the team will be able to return to play at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum beginning on March 26th. This means that the Winterhawks will only play one game at “home” in Kent, WA when they take on the Spokane Chiefs on March 21.

Eagles reassign Lewis and Henry, Burroughs recalled to Avalanche

Forwards Ty Lewis (190GP, 84G, 107A with Brandon ’14-’18) and Nick Henry (194GP, 78G, 126A with Regina and Lethbridge ’16-’19) have been reassigned to the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies by the AHL’s Colorado Eagles. Lewis has played four games with the Eagles and has not yet registered a point. With the Grizzlies, Lewis has seven assists in six games. Henry has played four games with the Eagles and has not yet registered a point. While with the Grizzlies this season, Henry has four goals and an assist in three games.

Defenseman Kyle Burroughs (250GP, 22G, 98A with Regina and Medicine Hat ’10-’15) has been called up by the Colorado Avalanche from the Colorado Eagles to serve on the team’s taxi squad. Burroughs has no points through five games with the Eagles this season. Burroughs was a seventh-round 2013 draft pick of the New York Islanders.

Rebels draft pick signs with AJHL’s Crusaders

Goaltender Justen Maric has signed with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL. Maric was a fifth-round 2019 WHL Draft pick of the Red Deer Rebels. This season with the CAC Canadians U18 AAA team, Maric had a 1-4-0 record with a 4.43 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage.

Ruzicka earns extension with HC Ocelari Trinec

Forward Martin Ruzicka (125GP, 9G, 17A with Everett and Lethbridge ’03-’05) has signed a contract extension with HC Ocelari Trinec of the Czech extraliga. Ruzicka is playing his fifth season with HC Ocelari, with 19 goals and 44 assists in 52 games. He is also an assistant captain with the team.
