Kubicek commits to Oil Kings

2001-born defenceman Simon Kubicek (113GP, 16G, 39A with Seattle) has committed to the Edmonton Oil Kings following a season playing professional hockey in the Czech Republic. Kubicek is a former member of the Seattle Thunderbirds, selected in the second round of the 2018 CHL Import Draft. The Thunderbirds then sent Kubicek to the Oil Kings in a trade on January 25, 2021. Nugent-Hopkins earns 8-year extension

28-year-old forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (141GP, 57G, 120A with Red Deer ’08-’11) has signed an eight-year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers. The man they call “Nuge” has played 10 seasons with the Oilers registering 185 goals and 293 assists. He was the first overall pick at the 2008 WHL Draft as well as the 2011 NHL Draft.

Anholt named to Program of Excellence management team

Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that Peter Anholt will join their Program of Excellence management team. Anholt has spent the last seven seasons as a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes office staff, including the last six as its general manager. This will be Anholt’s first stint with the national program.

Rattie joins Timra IK

28-year-old forward Ty Rattie (269GP, 151G, 197A with Portland ’08-’13) has joined Timra IK of the SHL. Rattie played the 2020-21 season with Assat of Liiga in Finland, scoring seven goals and adding nine assists in 27 games. Rattie was a second-round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2011. The Calgary, AB native went on to play 98 NHL games with the Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, and Edmonton Oilers.

Musil signs with HC Dynamo Pardubice

24-year-old forward Adam Musil (251GP, 65G, 97A with Red Deer ’12-’17) has signed with HC Dynamo Pardubice in the Czech league. Musil is coming off his second season with Bili Tygri Liberec, also of the Czech league. In 46 games, Musil scored 14 goals and added 10 assists in the regular season. In the playoffs, Musil added three goals and one assist in 15 games.

Hickmott heads back to Germany

31-year-old Mission, BC forward Jordan Hickmott (301GP, 69G, 83A with Medicine Hat, Prince Albert, and Edmonton ’05-’11) has returned to Germany after signing with the DEL2’s EC Bad Nauheim. Hickmott spent part of the 2018-19 season with Tolzer Lowen also of the DEL2. Last season, Hickmott played in Slovakia for HK Dukla Michalovce, scoring 11 goals and adding 19 assists in 47 regular-season games. He also had one goal and one assist in five playoff games.

Kolppanen signs in Denmark

28-year-old Vaasa, FIN goaltender Ville Kolppanen (14GP, 1-9-0, 4.88GAA, .853sv% with Lethbridge ’09-’10) has signed with Rungsted Seier Capital in Denmark. Kolppanen split the 2020-21 season in his home country of Finland, between Ilves (Liiga, 2-3-3, 3.48, .863) and KOOVEE (Mestis, 1-0-1, 1.46, .957). The Hurricanes made Kolppanen the 32nd overall pick at the 2009 CHL Import Draft.

Avtomobilist extends Grishakov

22-year-old Chelyabinsk, RUS forward Andrei Grishakov (139GP, 30G, 44A with Calgary and Victoria ’16-’18) has signed a contract extension with Avtomobilist. Grishakov’s contract will have him play in the VHL with Gornyak-UGMK, the team he played with in 2020-21. In 33 games, Grishakov scored seven goals and added 14 assists. The Calgary Hitmen selected Grishakov 106th overall at the 2016 CHL Import Draft.

Guenther signs for thrid season in France

26-year-old Calgary, AB defenceman Riley Guenther (83GP, 3G, 4A with Tri-City and Prince Albert ’10-’13) has re-signed with Angers of France. Last season Guenther scored three goals and added four assists in 22 games with Angers.

Khomenko re-signs with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk

23-year-old Novosibirsk, RUS forward Yan Khomenko (134GP, 22G, 28A with Everett, Prince George, Moose Jaw, and Victoria ’15-’18) has re-signed with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk of Kazakhstan. Everett selected Khomenko 115th overall at the 2015 CHL Import Draft.
