Rebels hire Konowalchuk as head coach

Former Seattle Thunderbirds Head Coach Steve Konowalchuk has been hired by the Red Deer Rebels. Brent Sutter was replacing himself and turned to the professional ranks, bringing Konowalchuk in from the New York Rangers organization. DUBNetwork has more HERE.

Organizational changes in Portland

Following a 13 year career with the Portland Winterhawks, Team President Doug Piper stepped down from his role with the club. Piper also served as the team’s governor for the majority of his tenure. Under Piper’s watch, the Winterhawks won four Western Conference titles, two Scotty Munro Memorial Trophies, and the 2013 WHL Championship.

Blackwater signs with Heilbronner Falken

Forward Judd Blackwater (171GP, 50G, 64A with Spokane ’05-’08) has signed with Heilbronner Falken of DEL2. Blackwater split 2020-21 between SC Csikszereda’s Erste Liga (31GP, 16G, 33A) and Romanian league teams (18GP, 12G, 19A). He also played in the playoffs for both (Erste Liga, 17GP, 7G, 13A), (Romanian, 9GP, 4G, 8A). Blackwater was a member of the Spokane Chiefs team that won the WHL Championship and the Memorial Cup in 2007-08.

Davis signs with Sterjnen Hockey

Defenseman Kevin Davis (347GP, 26G, 149A with Everett ’12-’18) signed with Sterjnen Hockey in Norway on Tuesday. Davis split the 2020-21 season between Colorado Avalanche affiliates in the AHL and ECHL. With the Colorado Eagles (AHL), Davis had four assists in 20 games. Davis played just two games with the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) and was held off the scoresheet.

Golicic signs extension with Gap

Forward Bostjan Golicic (124GP, 38G, 48A with Calgary ’07-09) has signed a contract extension with GAP of Ligue Magnus in France. 2020-21 was Golicic’s first full season with the club in his second stint, where he scored 10 goals and added 10 assists in 19 games. Golicic is a three-time French league champion.
