Blazers comeback to beat Cougars 3-2

After taking a 1-0 lead after the first period, the Kamloops Blazers allowed the Prince George Cougars to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission. The Blazers scored twice within 38 seconds in the third period to take a 3-2 lead and hung on for the win.

Matthew Seminoff (16th) opened the scoring for the Blazers with the lone first-period goal. Ethan Samson (ninth) and Cayden Glover (fourth) scored the Cougars’ second-period markers, before Connor Levis (ninth) and Luke Toporowski (18th) topped the Blazers’ comeback.

2,957 fans saw both goaltenders play well for their respective clubs. Dylan Garand made 23 saves for his 19th win of the season. Ty Young stopped 45 of 48 shots the Blazers directed at him in the loss. The boxscore.

Winterhawks dominate Thunderbirds in 5-1 win

The Portland Winterhawks outshot the Seattle Thunderbirds 49-28 en route to a 5-1 win over the visiting T-Birds.

Tyson Kozak scored twice (18th and 19th) on the powerplay to lead the Winterhawks to their 21st win of the season and 10th game with a point (9-0-0-1). Gabe Klassen (15th), Cross Hanas (11th), and Luke Schelter (fourth) rounded out the scoring for the Hawks. Connor Roulette (13th) got the Thunderbirds on the board in the second period which actually tied the contest up a 1-1 at that point.

Taylor Gauthier stayed perfect with the Winterhawks at 4-0-0-0 stopping 27 of 28 blasts headed his way. Thoman Milic stopped 44 of 48 for the Thunderbirds. The boxscore.

Mutala’s hat-trick leads Americans to 4-1 win over Chiefs

Sasha Mutala‘s third career hat-trick (11th, 12th, and 13th) led the way for the hometown Tri-City Americans over the Spokane Chiefs before 2,686 in Kennewick. Samuel Huo (11th) scored the other goal for the Americans who carried a 4-0 lead to the late stages of the contest. Timafey Kovgoreniya (second) got the Chiefs on the board with 2:06 left spoiling the shutout.

Tomas Suchanek was just over two minutes away from his first shutout for the Americans but still made 29 saves for his sixth win of the season. Mason Beaupit stopped 30 of 34 shots fired his way for the Chiefs. The boxscore.

Silvertips top Royals 5-3

Niko Huuhtanen scored twice (20th and 21st) and added an assist in a 5-3 Everett Silvertips win over the Victoria Royals at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena before a crowd of 2,681. The Royals have now lost seven straight contests.

Ryan Hofer (17th), Alex Swetlikoff (21st), and Olen Zellweger (eighth) added singles for the winners who went 2-for-5 on the powerplay while outshooting the Royals 44-26 overall. Keanu Derungs (ninth and 10th) and Tanner Scott replied for the Royals who also sniped twice on the powerplay.

Braden Holt stopped 23 shots for the Silvertips in picking up his 13th win of the season. Tyler Palmer stopped 39 shots for the Royals. The boxscore.

Wiesblatt leads Tigers to 6-4 win over Raiders

Oasiz Wiesblatt‘s first career hat-trick (sixth, seventh, and eighth) led the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 6-4 win over the hometown Prince Albert Raiders. Brendan Lee (eighth), Noah Danielson (ninth), and Gleb Ivanov (second) also scored for the Tigers. Even Herman scored a pair of goals for the Raiders, who also got singles from Zachary Wilson (second) and Harrison Lodewyk (second),

Garin Bjorklund won his sixth game of the season for the Tigers while stopping 31 of 35 Raiders shots. Tikhon Chaika stopped 21 shots in the loss. The boxscore.

Warriors hold on to 5-4 win against Rebels

The Moose Jaw Warriors took two-goal lead late in the third period and held on to a 5-4 win over the hometown Red Deer Rebels before 2,697 at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

Five different Warriors scored in their 5-4 hard fought win against the Rebels. Denton Mateychuk (eighth), Daemon Hunt (10th), Jagger Firkus (24th), Cordel Larson (eighth, and Ryder Korczak (14th) scored for the Warriors who were outshot 28-22 in the contest. Ben King (27th and 28th) scored twice while Jace Isley (seventh) and Liam Keeler (15th) replied for the Rebels. Mateychuk and Hunt each added a pair of assists in the game and finished with three point games.

Jackson Unger made 24 saves for the Warriors to pick up his fourth win of the season. Connor Ungar stopped 17 shots for the Rebels in the loss. The boxscore.

Blades crush the ICE 7-2

The Saskatoon Blades celebrated Pride Night by putting up a seven spot on the WHL leading Winnipeg ICE in a 7-2 win before 3,585 at SaskTel Centre.

Kyle Crnkovic led the way for the Blades with four points (2G-2A his 22nd and 23rd of the season), Brandon Lisowky had a pair of goals (20th and 21st), Jayden Wiens (12th), Noah Boyko (13th), and Vaughn Watterodt (second) rounded out the scoring for the Blades who went 2-for-3 on the powerplay. Skyler Bruce (11th) and Jack Finley (13th) replied for the ICE.

Nolan Maier stopped 28 shots as he picked up his 17th win of the season for the Blades. Daniel Hauser took his first regulation loss in the ICE net stopping 17 of 24 Blades shots directed his way. The boxscore.

Broncos beat the Hurricanes 3-1

Mathew Ward scored the first two goals(13th and 14th) of the game and Carter Stebbings  (fourth) added an insurance goal as the Swift Current Broncos beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-1 at the Innovation Credit Union i-plex. Hayden Smith (first career WHL goal) scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes while shorthanded.

Both teams failed to score on the powerplay as each team went 0-for-6.

Overage goaltender Isaac Poulter stopped 30 shots to pick up his 12th win of the season. Jared Picklyk made 24 saves in the Hurricane goal. The boxscore.

Smith tallies first goal for Hurricanes

Lethbridge Hurricanes seventeen-year-old Hayden Smith picked up his first career WHL goal in a 3-1 loss to the Swift Current Broncos. The Chetwynd, BC product was acquired from the Blades in late December and now had 2 points (1G-1A) in 43 career DUB games.

Laing makes debut for the Cougars

Fifteen-year-old forward Hunter Laing made his WHL debur for the Prince George Cougars in a 3-2 loss to the Kamloops Blazers. The Kelowna, BC product plays for Rink Hockey Academy U16 where he has 28 points (14G-14A) in 19 games and has played two games of the U18 squad where he has no stats.
