Wilson notches first for Raiders

Sixteen-year-old Zachary Wilson sniped his first career WHL goal for the Prince Albert Raiders in a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Hitmen.

In 19 games with the Raiders, the forward from Wetaskiwin, AB now has four points (goal, three assists).

Pacheco scores first for the Rockets

Another sixteen-year-old notched his first career marker as Marcus Pacheco dented the twine for the Kelowna Rockets in a 9-1 win over the Victoria Royals.

The Edmonton product now has six points (goal, five assists) in 30 games the year for the Rockets.

McIsaac debuts for Chiefs

Spokane’s second round pick in the 2021 WHL Porpects draft, Will McIsaac made his league debut on the blueline for the Chiefs. The Vancouver product was held without a point but took a minor penalty for interference to get on the scoresheet.

The fifteen-year-old has been playing with the St. George’s U18 prep team where he has 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) in 19 games played.

Iverson receives WHL Milestone Award

WHL referee Brett Iverson received the WHL Milestone Award which is presented to WHL players, coaches, trainers, officials, and WHL Championship teams for their outstanding achievements.

Iverson a product of Richmond, BC started officiating games in 2008-09 and has worked over 650 regular season games.

Halbgewachs returned to Barracuda

Jayden Halbgewachs (Moose Jaw 2013-2018) has been returned by the San Jose Sharks to their AHL affiliate the Barracuda, he was listed on the top line.

The Emerald Park, SK product has played in three games with the Sharks picking up an assist. In 24 games with the Barracuda he has 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists.

The 24-year-old forward played his entire WHL career with the Warriors where he played 276 games for the Friendly City. He collected 139 goals and 141 assists for 280 points which puts him at just over a point-per-game pace.

Lewington makes Bruins debut

Tyler Lewington (Medicine Hat 2011-15) made his Boston Bruins debut earlier this weekend after receiving a call up from Providence. Since 2018-19, Lewington has skated in 12 NHL games with Washington, Nashville and now Boston where he has three points (goal, two assists) in those games. He has spent the majority of the 2021-22 season with the AHL’s Bruins where he has played 24 games (one goal, three assists).

The 27-year-old Edmonton product played his entire WHL career with the Tigers where the defenseman was the captain in his final season. He had 122 points (18 goals, 94 assists) in 250 games.

Henry, Nielsen reassigned to Grizzlies

Nick Henry (Regina, Lethbridge 2016-19) and Andrew Nielsen (Lethbridge 2013-16) were both reassigned from the Colorado Eagles of the AHL to the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL.

Henry, a Portage la Prairie, MB product’s offensive game has yet to translate over into the pro’s. In 20 games with the Eagles, Henry has just a single assist.

Over his three-year WHL stint, the right-winger played 194 games where he scored 78 times and added 126 assists for 204 points.

Nielsen was called up to the Eagles Earlier this month but did not see any game action. In the ECHL with the Grizzlies he has played 29 games where he has 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists).

The Red Deer product played his entire 131 game career with the Hurricanes where the defenseman put up 94 points (25 goals, 69 assists).

Iverson loaned to Reign

Keegan Iverson (Portland 2011-2017) signed a professional tryout with the Ontario Reign. After starting the season with Mount Royal University of USports where he played three games. In November Iverson left to join the Indy Fuel of the ECHL where he had three assists in 13 games.

The Minneapolis product played all 293 of his WHL games with the Winter Hawks where he notched 190 points on 80 goals and 110 assists.

Scherbak on the move to HK Hradec

Former NHL first-round pick Nikita Scherbak (Saskatoon, Everett 2013-15) joined the HK Hradec Kravlove (Tipsport Extraliga, Czechia) after starting the season with HK Banska Bytrica (Tipos Extraliga, Slovakia). In 25 games for HK Banska he had 21 points (six goals, 15 assists).

The Moskva, RU born forward split his two-year WHL career between the Blades and Silvertips. He had 160 points (55 goals, 105 assists) in 130 games in the WHL

McKay recalled to the IceHogs

Riley McKay (Spokane, Saskatoon 2016-20) was recalled by the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL from the ECHL’s Indy Fuel. The 22-year-old forward has 12 points (six goals, six assists) and 122 penalty minutes in 27 games for the Fuel prior to his recall.

The Swan River, MB product played four years in the WHL where he played two seasons each with the Chiefs and Blades. In 243 games, McKay had 87 points (38 goals, 49 assists) and 517 PIM.

Kneen loaned to the Checkers

Nolan Kneen (Kamloops, Saskatoon 2014-20) was recalled by the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. The 22-year-old defender was with the Allen Americans of the ECHL where he had nine points in 15 games (three goals, six assists).

In 310 WHL games with the Blazers and Blades, the Kelowna, BC product had 139 points on 28 goals and 111 assists.

Ross picked up by Hannover

Brad Ross (Portland 2007-12) was picked up by the Hannover Scorpions (Germany3) after starting the season with the Selber Wolfe (DEL2) where he was an alternate captain. In 24 games with Selber he had 11 points (one goal, 10 assists).

The Edmonton product played his full five-year WHL career with the Winter Hawks where he skated in 270 games, collecting 245 points (109 goals, 136 assists).

Schmid sent down to Utica

Akira Schmid (Lethbridge 2018-19) was assigned to the Utica Comets of the AHL by the New Jersey Devils. The 21-year-old goaltender made three appearances with the Devils going 0-2-0 with a 4.41 goals against average and .851 save percentage. In ten games with the Comets, he’s 8-0-2 with an impressive 1.60 GAA and .944 SV%.

The Swiss netminder was the Hurricanes’ first-round pick in the 2018 CHL Import Draft. He made one appearance for Lethbridge playing in 56:32 allowing seven goals on 27 shots. He finished his WHL career with a 7.43 GAA and .741 SV%.
