WHL plans to play 24 game season

After the WHL Board of Governors convened on Friday, the league made an announcement regarding their 2020-21 season. It was decided that a 24 game season is to be played with more details to come regarding the particulars. More can be read HERE.

Hurricanes building to host 2022 Tim Hortons Brier

The Lethbridge Hurricanes may need to play a few games on the road at the end of next season. This time it is the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier, scheduled to take place during the regular season this time around and not during the WHL playoffs like the 2019 World Men’s Curling Championships.

Belleville Bulls sign pair of WHL Alumni

Cole Reinhardt (252GP, 75G, 66A with Brandon) has earned an amateur try-out with the Belleville Bulls. Reinhardt was a sixth-round pick of the Ottawa Senators at the 2020 NHL Draft. Colby Williams (211GP, 25G, 79A with Regina ’10-’16) has signed a one-year contract with the Bulls. He played the last four seasons with the Hershey Bears. Williams was a sixth-round pick of the Washington Capitals at the 2015 NHL Draft.

Meyer loaned to EHC Kloten

Dario Meyer (56GP, 13G, 13A with Edmonton ’15-’16) has been loaned to EHC Kloten (SL) by his regular club HC Davos (NL). Meyer has spent the last five seasons in various leagues throughout his native Switzerland.

Stephens assigned to Solar Bears

Devante Stephens (203GP, 19G, 38A with Kelowna ’14-’17) has been assigned to the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. Stephens was in training camp with the Tampa Bay Lightning and had spent each of the last three seasons split between the ECHL and AHL. Stephens was a member of the 2014-15 WHL Championship winning Rockets.

Tigers prospect signs with Bucks

Back on January 5th, the Cranbrook Bucks (BCHL) announced they had signed Walker Gelbard. Gelbard was the Medicine Hat Tigers’ third-round pick, 54th overall in the 2020 WHL Draft.

Koffer signs with HC Dynamo Pardubice

Filip Koffer (59GP, 9G, 15A with Prince George) has signed with HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Czech league. Koffer is coming off an appearance for the Czech Republic at the IIHF World Junior Championships where he scored one goal in five contests. Koffer had been playing for HC Stadion Litomerice of the Czech2 league prior to departing for the tournament.
