Silvertips extend winning streak, snap Rockets streak in 6-2 win

The Everett Silvertips extended their winning streak to eight games in a 6-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets which ended the Rockets’ own streak at eight games.

The Silvertips scored a trio of goals by the 2:13 mark of the second period on goals by Ryan Hofer (20th), Olen Zellweger (ninth), and Ben Hemmerling (sixth). The Rockets scored the next two goals two minutes apart at 4:30 and 6:30 of the second scored by Mark Liwiski (14th) and Jake Lee (12th). The Silvertips scored three more times before the game was over. Jacob Wright (17th) and Hofer scored (second of the game, 21st) before the end of the second. Jackson Berezowski scored his 31st at 21:59 of the third period to finish up the scoring.

Braden Holt notched his 20th win of the season as he stopped 30 shots in the win for the first-place Silvertips who collected their 70th point. Talyn Boyko stopped 37 shots in the loss. The boxscore.

Blazers hang on to extend winning streak to nine in win over Royals

The Kamloops Blazers completed their two-game Vancouver Island sweep in a 3-2 win over the Victoria Royals. The win extended the Blazers’ winning streak to nine straight contests.

Logan Stankoven (25th) and Connor Levis (11th) opened the scoring for the Blazers in the first before Keanu Derungs (13th) replied for the Royals prior to the intermission. Luke Toporowski (26th) scored the lone goal and eventual game-winner at 12:26 of the second period. The goal was Toporowski’s 11th in nine games with the Blazers. Gannon Laroque (seventh) scored for the Royals in the third period, but it was not enough in a 3-2 Blazer win. The Royals are 0-13-0-1 in their last 14 games.

Dylan Ernst made 29 saves to pick up his seventh win of the season on what is his 18th birthday. Campbell Arnold stopped 32 of 35 shots picking up the loss. The boxscore.

DUB Firsts

Williams plays first game for Hitmen, collects assist

Defenseman Dax Williams played in his first career DUB game for the Calgary Hitmen in a 5-4 OT win over the Regina Pats. The hometown product also registered his first career point with an assist on the Hitmen’s opening goal.

The 121st overall selection in the 2021 WHL Prospects draft is playing with the Calgary Buffaloes U18 AAA team where he has 15 points (2G-13A) in 29 games. He has also suited up for two games with the AJHL’s Okotoks Oilers where he has an assist.

DUB Alumni

Keoni Texeira (Portland 2013-18) was returned by the San Jose Barracuda (AHL) to the ECHL’s Indy Fuel after a brief loan. In four games with the Barracuda, the 24-year-old played in four contests where he was held pointless but did manage seven penalty minutes. The Fuel captain returns to the club where he has 17 points (3G-14A) in 34 games this season (his third with Indy).

The defenseman from Fontana. CA played his entire five-year DUB career with the Winterhawks where he picked up 143 points (39G-104A) in 344 games.
