DUB Firsts

Howell scores first goal for Warriors

15-year-old Marek Howell scored his first career DUB goal in Moose Jaw’s 5-2 win over Medicine Hat. In three games with the Warriors, Howell now has a pair of points on this goal and an assist.

In 28 games with the Calgary Royals U18 team, the defenseman has 13 points (8G-5A)

Crampton scores first goal for Chiefs

17-year-old defenseman Brayden Crampton scored his first career marker for the Spokane Chiefs in a 7-3 loss to the red-hot Portland Winterhawks. The Chilliwack, BC product was playing in his 33rd game with the Chiefs and now has five points (1G-4A) this season.

Kraus makes first appearance for Royals

Fifteen-year-old Jayden Kraus made his first appearance for the Victoria Royals stopping all four shots he faced in 2:39 of relief in an 8-2 Royals loss to the Kamloops Blazers.

The 46th overall pick in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft out of Prince Albert, SK plays for his hometown Mintos in the SMAAAHL where he is 12-7-0 with a 2.48 goals against average and .916 save percentage.

Fluker picks up first point for Broncos

Josh Fluker, the seventh overall pick by the Swift Current Broncos in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft picked up his first DUB point with an assist in a 2-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Fluker was playing in his second career game for the club.

The Boissevain, MB product plays for the Southwest Cougars U18 where the defenseman has 17 points (5G-12A) in 30 games.

Huck commits to Western Michigan

Regina Pats’ 41st overall pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, Samuel Huck has committed to play hockey at Western Michigan University beginning in the 2023-24 season.

Huck a 17-year-old that calls Calgary home has been playing for the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL where he has played 48 games collecting 25 points (8G-17A) as a rookie.

Johnson’s big weekend continues

One night after having his number 9 raised to the rafters in the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, the Chiefs had a bobblehead night in honor of franchise legend Tyler Johnson. Originally drafted in the 11th round, 205th overall in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft the 5-ft-8 forward has carved out quite a career for himself.

The Liberty Lake, WA product won a Memorial Cup in 2008, World Junior Gold medalist in 2010, led the WHL in goals (53) in 2010-11, and won the Brad Hornung Trophy as Most Sportsmanlike Player in 2010-11 amongst other achievements in the DUB. In his four seasons with the Chiefs, he played 266 games where he picked up 282 points (128G-154A).

As a professional, Johnson won the Calder Cup as AHL Champion with the Norfolk Admirals and is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2019-20 and 2020-21). He is now on the Chicago Blackhawks where he is out with an injury.
