The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced the signing of 2019 third-round WHL Bantam Draft pick, Reid Mackay. In four games for the Lloydminster Bobcats U18 AAA team this year, Mackay has tallied four goals and two assists.

As first reported by Josh Hall of rdnewsNOW, WHL teams will not be able to carry affiliate players for the 24-game season. Also, import players will find it difficult to take part due to the requirement that they obtain a National Interest Exemption. A Visa will be needed to be obtained for American WHL players to compete for Canadian teams for the 2020-21 season.

Miles Koules (208GP, 71G, 79A with Medicine Hat and Portland ’12-’15) has signed a PTO with the Binghamton Devils. The Devils are the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. Koules spent last season with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors where he recorded one goal and four assists in 31 games.

The Americans have announced a partnership with SWX to air all 12 Tri-City home games in the coming season. Fans will once again hear games called by Craig West. A familiar voice to fans of the Americans, West will be joined by Jamie Council of SWX. There will be multiple options available for fans to tune in all season both on local broadcast and online via SWXRightNow.com or the SWX app.
Washington teams get cleared to play
I have learned that Gov. Inslee has approved the WHL’s request to play hockey for its Washington based teams. No word from the league or teams about the next steps as of yet but one major hurdle has been overcome.

As first reported by Andy Eide, Washington Governor Jay Inslee has approved play for the four teams based in his state. As we await official word from the WHL, this is promising news that progress is being made every day for games to take place soon. With the return of the Central Division slated for February 26, we may see the US Division receive a date soon. However, there has been no update from the Oregon government at this time.

Jack Walker (318GP, 101G, 147A with Victoria ’12-’17) has left SC Langenthal of SL in Switzerland. In 30 games with SC Langenthal, Walker scored six goals and added eight assists. Walker has played for seven different teams in four different leagues in the last four seasons.
