CHL announces VerizonMedia as new streaming partner

As reported by DUBNetwork in October, the CHL has chosen VerizonMedia as their new broadcast partner. Details were thin, especially regarding pricing and other features, but fans across the WHL are excited and hopeful that the new partner will deliver on their expectations. Further announcements are expected before puck drop on the season, which begins on February 26th, 2021 in the Central Division.

Americans hire Peterson as Athletic Therapist

Madelyne Peterson, a native of Seattle, Wash., joins the Americans after most recently working in the Physical Therapy department at Tri-City Orthopaedics. She graduated from the University of Montana last year with a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance and a master’s degree in athletic training.

Rocha signs with Broncos

Goaltender Joey Rocha has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Swift Current Broncos. The fifth-round selection of the Broncos at the 2020 WHL Draft, Rocha played last season with the North Island Silvertips U15 team. He posted an 8-7-0 record along with a 3.35 goals-against average. Rocha is eligible to join the Broncos full-time for the 2021-22 season.

Chiefs sign Panghli

Goaltender Manny Panghli has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Spokane Chiefs. Panghli was not selected in the WHL Draft but had been listed by the Chiefs. This season, Panghli played with the Okanagan HA Black U17 Prep team, posting a 4-0-0 record, a 1.31 goals-against average, and a .940 save percentage.

Rebels announce Gillard as interim play by play broadcaster

Following the departure of Cam Moon, the Red Deer Rebels had said their search was on for an interim replacement for the upcoming 24-game WHL season. The team found their man in Troy Gillard, who has been part of the Rebels broadcast team since 2011. Gillard is also the News/Sports Director at BIG 105 and 106.7 Rewind Radio in Red Deer.

Silvertips name co-captains

The Everett Silvertips got a jump on their season by announcing the team will have co-captains this season. Defenseman Gianni Fairbrother (137GP, 17G, 49A with Everett) and forward Cole Fonstad (270GP, 76G, 171A with Prince Albert and Everett). The US Division season gets underway on March 19th, 2021.

Paddock signs amateur tryout with Stockton

20-year-old goaltender Max Paddock (133GP, 57-52-13, 3.02GAA, .905sv% with Regina and Prince Albert) has signed an amateur tryout contract with the Stockton Heat. Originally a 10th round pick of the Regina Pats in 2015, Paddock earned the tryout following a trade to Prince Albert on January 9th, 2020.

Urbom joins EC Red Bull Salzburg

Defenseman Alexander Urbom (66GP, 12G, 21A with Brandon ’09-’10) has signed with EC Red Bull Salzburg of IceHL in Austria. Urbom was a 2009 NHL Draft third-round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils and appeared in 34 NHL games. Last season with Dusseldorfer EG of the DEL, Urbom played in 36 games registering three goals and three assists.

IK Oskarshamn welcomes Lipon

Following his departure from Dinamo Riga, forward JC Lipon (248GP, 61G, 127A with Kamloops ’09-’13) has signed with IK Oskarshamn of the SHL. Lipon played 37 games with Dinamo Riga, registering eight goals and 12 assists. A third-round 2013 NHL Draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, Lipon played nine NHL games with the Jets in 2015-16 and had since played with the Jets affiliate in the AHL, the Manitoba Moose. This was his first season overseas.

Dietrich passes away

Former defenseman and captain of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Don Dietrich (204GP, 37G, 146A with Brandon ’78-’81) has passed away. DUBNetwork would like to send its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Dietrich as well as the Brandon Wheat Kings organization.
