Hanas signs with the Red Wings

2002-born Cross Hanas has signed an entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The native of Highland Village, TX was the 55th overall selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Wings.

Hanas has come alive in his fourth DUB season with the Winterhawks and as of this posting, he has 71 points (22G-49A) in 53 games this season. He was the 77th overall pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft and has played his entire career with the Hawks.

Oil Kings still number one in the CHL

The Edmonton Oil Kings stayed strong at number one. The well-oiled machine are currently on a 14 game winning streak (until a 5-3 setback to the Blades on Wednesday night). The Winnipeg ICE moved up to number three after collecting points in nine straight contests (7-0-1-1). The Everett Silvertips holdfast at number five, the U.S. Division’s first-place team has won three-straight. The Kamloops Blazers moved up to number six in the country are winners of their last six games. The Portland Winterhawks move down to number 10 are 7-3-0 in their last 10 contests.

Benson placed on waivers by the Oilers

Tyler Benson (Vancouver 2013-18) was placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers. In 29 games with the Oilers, the hometown product has a pair of points (1G-1A).

The 24-year-old forward played 190 games with the Giants where he collected 184 points (61G-123A). He was the Giants captain for his final three seasons in the DUB (from 2015-18).

Juulsen reassigned to Abbotsford

Noah Juulsen (Everett 2012-17) was returned by the Vancouver Canucks to the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks. The former first-round NHL pick (26th overall, Montreal in 2015) has played for both versions of the Canucks this season. He has played in seven games with Vancouver this season where he has two points (both assists). In 38 games for Abbotsford, he has 15 points (3G-12A) and 34 penalty minutes.

The defenseman from Surrey, BC played his DUB career with the Silvertips where he had 124 points (30G-94A) in 240 games.

Wardley, McAuley traded to Stingrays

Evan Wardley (Seattle 2010-15) and Colby McAuley (Prince George 2014-17) were both acquired by the South Carolina Stingrays in a trade with the Idaho Steelheads.

27-year-old Wardley had played 22 games for the Steelheads where he had 3 points (3A). He had tryouts with the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) where he had one assist in four games. He also played a pair of games with the Texas Stars where he was held off the scoresheet.

In 208 career DUB games, the defensive defenseman had 40 points (9G-31A) all with the Thunderbirds.

McAuley, a 25-year-old had played 32 games with the Steelheads where he had 23 points (9G-14A). He also had a tryout with the Hershey Bears (AHL) where he had one assist in five games.

The Sherwood Park, AB played 191 games in the DUB, all with the Cougars where he notched 96 points (44G-52A).
