Winterhawks ink Sotas

On Sunday, the Portland Winterhawks announced that they have signed Birtle, MB native Aiden Sotas to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. Sotas was a ninth-round pick of the Winterhawks at the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft. He is listed at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, and played seven games in 2020-21, all with the Yellowhead Chiefs U18 AAA program. Sotas scored three goals and added one assist.

Puustinen signs with Orebro

33-year-old Finnish forward Juuso Puustinen (124GP, 59G, 64A with Kamloops ’06-’08) has signed with Orebro HK in the SHL in Sweden. Puustinen is coming off a 2020-21 campaign in which he scored 18 goals and 12 assists in 46 games with Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL. The Blazers selected Puustinen 29th overall at the 2006 CHL Import Draft. The Calgary Flames selected Puustinen in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL Draft.

Kalinichenko signs extension with CSKA Moskva

20-year-old defenceman Roman Kalinichenko (111GP, 3G, 16A with Tri-City ’17-’19) has signed a contract extension with CSKA Moskva for the 2021-22 season. Kalinichenko was the Americans’ first-round pick (36th overall) at the 2017 CHL Import Draft. Last season Kalinichenko started with CSKA Moskva of the KHL, playing one game. He then played one game with the VHL’s Zvezda Moskva. Finally, Kalinichenko played 62 regular-season games with Krasnaya Armiya Moskva of the MHL, where he registered two goals and 13 assists. He also had one goal and one assist in seven playoff games.

Jokel, Demek extended by HC Kosice

29-year-old forward Oliver Jokel (14GP, 0G, 0A with Swift Current ’08-’09) has signed a contract extension with HC Kosice of Slovakia. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Kosice, SVK resident played 49 regular-season games with the club last season, scoring two goals and adding 10 assists. He also had one assist in four playoff games. The Broncos selected Jokel 36th overall at the 2008 CHL Import Draft.

18-year-old forward Jakub Demek also signed an extension with HC Kosice, he had two assists in 10 games with the club in 2020-21. The Edmonton Oil Kings selected Demek 47th overall at the 2021 CHL Import Draft.
