Daily Dose of the Dub: WHL prospects named to Team Alberta leadership group ahead of CWG

Team Alberta leadership group named

Team Alberta announced their leadership group ahead of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, which includes four 2018 first round picks.

Calgary Hitmen prospect Sean Tschigerl was named captain of the squad with Marc Lajoie (Tri-City), Dylan Guenther (Edmonton), and Kai Uchacz (Seattle) being named assistant captains.

Tschigerl was the fourth overall pick in the 2018 Bantam Draft and has gotten into six WHL games this year, going pointless. The Whitecourt, AB native has 44 points (18G, 26A) in 26 games this season in midget with OHA Edmonton Prep.

Lajoie was picked 14th overall by the Americans and has been playing this season for Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep and has 31 points (10G, 21A) in 31 games. He is the son of Kamloops Blazers Head Coach, Serge Lajoie.

Guenther was the first overall selection this past year and has four points (3G, 1A) in eight games with the Oil Kings this season. He is averaging two points-per-game in midget with 51 points (27G, 24A) in 25 games playing a team with Lajoie and the Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep of the CSSHL.

Uchacz was drafted by the Thunderbirds 10th overall and has skated in three WHL games this season, going pointless. The forward has 31 points (16G, 15A) in 28 games with the Okotoks Oilers of the AMHL.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Red Deer’s Ethan Anders had 37 saves in a 2-1 shootout win over Everett.

2nd Star: Edmonton’s Vince Loschiavo had two goals including the game winner in a 3-2 win over Moose Jaw.

3rd Star: Everett’s Dustin Wolf had 37 saves in a losing effort to Red Deer.

Alexander Alexeyev scored the shootout winner in the Rebels 2-1 win over Everett….Edmonton’s Trey Fix-Wolansky had two assists and was a +2 in Edmonton’s 3-2 win over Moose Jaw….
