Daily Dose of the DUB: Wheat Kings add to front office, and sign import, Blades sign two players

Brandon Wheat Kings add assistant GM

The Brandon Wheat Kings announced today that they have hired former Vancouver Canucks scout Doug Gasper as their assistant general manager. Gasper previously spent time as a scout and then the director of scouting for the Moose Jaw Warriors from 2011 through the 2016-17 season. The team also announced in their press release the hiring of William Sadonick-Carriere as the teams, athletic therapist. Sadonik-Carriere comes to the Wheat Kings from Winnipeg, where he recently graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Therapy at the University of Winnipeg.

Wheat Kings sign import Kallionkieli

Brandon had more news to announce as their 22nd overall pick at the 2019 Import Draft signed with the team. Forward Marcus Kallionkieli, the Vegas Golden Knights fifth round pick from this past NHL draft is expected to join the team in time for their training camp in September. A native of Helsinki, Finland, Kallionkieli spent last season with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL where he scored 29 goals and added 24 assists in 59 games. The 2001-born Kallionkieli was signed by the Golden Knights on July 31st.

The team’s press release also states that goaltender Jiri Patera is expected to be in Brandon for training camp.

Blades sign pair of import defensemen

Saskatoon continued it’s busy week leading up to training camp with the signing of both of their import picks from the most recent CHL Import Draft. 2000-born Libor Zabransky and late 2001-born Radek Kucerik both hail from the Czech Republic. Zabransky has previously played in the WHL, with the Kelowna Rockets where he scored four goals and added 24 assists in 105 contests. Kucerik played last year for HC Kometa Brno of the Czech U19 league. He posted six goals and 17 assists in 43 games. He also has 62 games of international experience with the Czech national teams. Former Oil King signs with Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL

Oil Kings alumni Cody Corbett (190GP , 30G, 99A with the team) signed with the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL following parts of two seasons overseas. Corbett has previously played in the ECHL to the tune of 87 games split between the Fort Wayne Komets, Colorado Eagles, South Carolina Stingrays, and the Idaho Steelheads. The Gladiators are the ‘AA’ affiliate of the Boston Bruins.

Two former WHLers sign in the KHL

As originally reported by BelTA Noticias, both Igor Martynov (124GP, 29G, 56A, 85PTS with Victoria Royals) and Andrei Pavlenko (78GP, 12G, 19A, 31PTS with Edmonton Oil Kings) have signed on with the Kontinental Hockey League’s Dinamo Minsk hockey club. The team is located in Minsk, Belarus.
